Purpose of meeting: Updates from Coalition members, Discuss Action Plan updates, plan; DBHR Site Visit,
Leadership Team decisions, and Summer 2019 meeting schedule

Activity
Call meeting to order
Updates on CPWI Coordinator activities
Last month
Saying it Out Loud Conference- Lindsay and Denise attended this training April
29, 2019, and are working to continue to develop the Coalition’s LGBTQ cultural
competency
Youth Mental Health First Aid- Lindsay and Denise attended this training on May
16th, will share details about upcoming trainings with the Coalition
Senior Symposium- Lindsay mentored a student for their senior project where
they developed a smoking prevention curriculum. Lindsay attended the Senior
Project Presentations on May 21st and acted as a panelist for six senior projects.
Drug Take Back Day April 27, 2019- Port Townsend and Chimacum Coalitions
partnered with local law enforcement to collect prescription drugs outside two
local sites- Safeway in Port Townsend, and QFC in Port Hadlock. Together they
collected over two hundred pounds of unwanted prescription drugs. This is part
of a national effort that aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible
means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public
about the potential for abuse of medications. The next Drug Take Back Day will
be in October 2019.
Upcoming
High in Plain Sight May 28, 2019 6-7:30pm at Blue Heron Middle School, training
for parents to recognize signs of drug use
Vaping Education at Blue Heron on May 28- Dana Marklund, Denise Banker,
Karen Obermeyer, and Lindsay Scalf presented vaping education to Blue Heron
students (Grades 6-8), subjects included Facts about Vapor, Lungs, Addiction,
Media Literacy in a health fair style format. Denise, Karen, and Lindsay will be
presenting the same program for Quilcene 6-12th graders on May 31
Summer Trainings- Leadership Institute June 17-20, Montana Summer Institute
June 24-28
Pride in the Park July 13, 2019, Denise will table to promote the Coalition
Social Media Campaign Design for 2019- Lindsay and Denise will meet in June to
develop a plan for social media posting for the upcoming year
Updates from different sectors
Al Scalf asked if there were any elements of a statement on the rights of teens
included in the Strategic Plan. This addition could help the Coalition align itself
more with the ‘Empowered Teens’ lens. Lindsay will follow up with interested
Coalition members to develop a subcommittee to include this theme in the
strategic plan.
Discuss Action Plan updates
Last submitted on May 24, 2019
Updates included Environmental Strategy- ‘Updating existing Jefferson County ordinance
with the Board of Health to prohibit vaping in public places’
Plan for DBHR Site Visit
June 5, 2019 1:30-3pm, Rose Quinby from the Division of Behavioral Health and
Recovery and Port Townsend Prevention Coalition’s systems manager will be doing a site
visit on June 5th, Coalition members are invited to join for a meet and greet from 1:30-
3pm in the Pacific Room at Jefferson County Public Health to learn more about DBHR’s
role in our prevention work.
Leadership Team decisions
Due to summer schedule, Leadership Team decisions will be postponed until the
September 2019 meeting
Summer Meeting Schedule
Due to school closure, the Coalition will not hold monthly meetings in June or July, and
will next meet on August 27, 2019 from 3-4pm in the Pacific Room at Jefferson County
Public Health. Lindsay will stay connected with people via email/phone, and will update
the Coalition about relevant programming and share details from the trainings she
attends.
