Discuss Leadership Team

3:30 Call meeting to order
3:35 Updates on activities
Hidden in Plain Sight
September 30 program for people over 18 years of age. Explores risk factors for adolescent
substance use and how to look for signs of use. Coalition providing snacks for participants.
Drug Identification and Detection in Educational Environments
CHS, JeffCo Library, two four hour trainings where participants learned about how to observe
signs of substance abuse in teens. Student Assistance Professionals for PTHS and BHM were
there.
WA DOH ACE’s Resiliency Leadership Program
September 18-21, learned techniques on facilitating open space community dialogue, Denise
and Lindsay thinking about how to bring World Cafes to the community to learn about
community needs around substance prevention
Essentials for Childhood, and Clallam County’s Collaborative Learning Academy
Follow up on Leadership program. Monthly meetings on how to build resilience through
fostering trauma-sensitive care and expand the understanding of NEAR sciences (Neuroscience,
Epigenetics, ACEs, and Resilience)
Guiding Good Choices 2019
Tuesdays in October in Chimacum, Wednesdays in October in Port Townsend
Currently no participants registered. Distribute flyer to Blue Heron Middle School parents, and
share with Salish school, and Katy Gaffney
Community Surveys 2019
Survey of adult perceptions of adolescent substance use. Sharing of survey link encouraged,
Coalition needs to collect 180 surveys by December 15

Drug Take Back October 26th
Lindsay and PTPD collecting unused prescription and nonprescription drugs for safe disposal. 10-
2 at Safeway in PT

Rainbow Center
Drop in teen center for LGBTQ+ youth and their allies. Opening October 7. Will be open from 4-
8pm every Monday. Currently have funding until next year. Next meeting October 4, 2019
12pm, location to be determined. Contact Lindsay for more details.
4:00 Planning for Positive Social Norms campaign
Updates from Lo Lo Sherwood- Coalition developing a positive social norms campaign to promote non-
use of marijuana, and community connection. Lisa who coordinates Redhawk Mentors (PTHS seniors
who mentor peers) offered to set up a focus group with the students to test some ideas. Scheduling
after Homecoming (October 11, 2019)
4:10 Planning for Drug Take Back October 26th 10am-2pm at PT Safeway
Discussed flyering/postering locations.
4:20 Discuss expectations for Leadership Team decisions
After discussion on roles of Leadership team, Julie Russell and Dana Marklund elected as co-chairs, Al
Scalf elected as Secretary.
