School Board Dec. 11th, Community Health Improvement Plan Assessment, GGC beginning in March, Youth Marijuana Prevention and Education Program (YMPEP) meeting; Members’ activity update. Activity: Positive messaging brainstorm poster.

3:30 Lindsay Called meeting to order; Introductions. Approved agenda. Greg moved, Ciela and Mark seconded. Motion carried.
3:40 Lindsay, members Report -Lindsay reported on Denise’s attendance of the School Board Training 12/3 and swear-in meeting 12/11. -Community Health Improvement Plan Assessment meetings-
identified top health priorities, of which includes adolescent substance use and mental health. -Guiding Good Choices beginning in March 2020, early dissemination of materials to boost recruitment -YMPEP meeting January 30, with presentations from a
representative from the Liquor and Cannabis board and a representative from the Department of Health -Ciela reported on the prevention club- Drug Abuse Prevention (DAP) December activities at Chimacum JSHS. Poster making for students to have a ‘sweet, safe holiday’,
hosted an event with cocoa and candy canes for students. -Mark reported that incidents of vaping are down this year as compared to Fall 2018. Continuing to address the needs of high risk students.

-Greg reported on Jefferson County considering (in early
stages) the option of establishing tiny houses in a local park for youth and families experiencing homelessness. Presented local data that showed there are 100 homeless youth in Jefferson County, with 70-80 of them being in the Chimacum
School District.
-Lindsay reported on some of the activities of the Port Townsend Empowered Teens Coalition, and their action planning stage in the Spring of 2020, an ideal time for new participants to get involved.
3:50 Lindsay Lindsay presented on Positive Social Norms with examples of how they have been used in Chimacum and other communities.
Coalition discussed HYS results for our 8th and 10th graders, and how to balance concern with hope. 4:05 Lindsay Activity: Positive messaging brainstorm poster. Coalition discussed the Positive norms approach, whether or not to use data from HYS
in the campaign or to use terms like ‘most’ or ‘many’ in regards to how many are abstaining from substance use. Discussed presenting positive norms about the Chimacum School District- the
strength of the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) approach the middle school uses. 4:25 Lindsay Closed meeting
Happy Holidays!!! The January 15, 2019 meeting of the Empowered Teens Coalition, Chimacum will be held at the CHIMACUM JUNIOR/SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL LIBRARY 3:30-4:30.
