RE: Briefing to the Board of County Commissioners regarding Jefferson County's 2020
Census Effort
STATEMENT OF ISSUE:
The federal government is conducting the 2020 census,with the help of state and local governments. The
Washington State Office of Financial Management made grant funds available to help cover expenses associated
with local government efforts to support an accurate census.Jefferson County applied for the grant funds and was
awarded$39,500 for census related work through June 30,2020.
ANALYSIS:
Staff would like to discuss its plans for supporting the 2020 census in Jefferson County. An initial and vitally
important task is the establishment of a Jefferson County Complete Count Committee.We have started the process
of identifying influential members of our community that can help us further our outreach to the community to
ensure the most complete count possible.
FISCAL IMPACT:
This request has no fiscal impact.
RECOMMENDATION:
That a briefing on the 2020 census be placed on the regular Board agenda for January 13,2020.
