Philip Morley, County Administrator
From: Monte Reinders, P.E., Public Works Director
Agenda Date: February 24, 2020
Subject: A Resolution to Update the Official County Road Log for
Maple Creek Road, County Road #135109
Statement of Issue:
Maple Creek Road was developed in the 1960s to access a bridge crossing over the Hoh River. The
bridge was never constructed. The official County Road Log for Maple Creek Road is made up of
three distinct segments. The first segment is from milepost 0.00 to 0.48, starting at the Upper
Hoh Road and ending at the Hoh River. This segment is open and maintained by the County. The
next Road Log segment, milepost 0.78 to 1.28, is on the opposite side of the river and is not
opened, maintained, or passable due to years of landslide damage and is overgrown. The final
Road Log segment of Maple Creek Road is from milepost 1.28 to 1.70. This segment is open and
maintained by the County, but is known by the local property owners as Owl Creek Road since it is
for all intents and purposes an extension of Owl Creek Road. Note that the section between
mileposts 0.48 and 0.78 was never placed on the Road Log because it was never constructed. See
attached map.
The Board is asked to sign a resolution to remove from the official County Road Log the abandoned
segment of Maple Creek Road between mileposts 0.78 and 1.28. This action does not vacate the
road right of way but simply updates the Road Log to reflect what is open and maintained by the
County.
Analysis/Strategic Goals/Pro's Et Con's:
Making corrections to keep the Official County Road Log current helps to avoid maintenance
confusion.
Fiscal Impact/Cost Benefit Analysis:
The motor vehicle fuel tax distribution formula is based in part on the road mileage listed in the
official County Road Log; therefore, it is important to keep the Road Log accurate and up to date.
Recommendation:
Department of Public Works recommends that the Board approve updating the Official County
Road Log length of Maple Creek Road by signing the attached Resolution.
