SUMMARY
Updates and maintains computer-based maps, utilizing standardized CAD software of geographical areas
to show natural and constructed features, political boundaries and other features by performing the
following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be
assigned.
Maintain a computerized mapping database of Assessor's parcel maps in sectional subdivision format
utilizing CAD software, aerial photos, digital orthophotos, GPS equipment, deeds, surveys and plats. Plot
and distribute maps according to prescribed policies and procedures.
Use various computer equipment as standard tools of operations. These tools include, but are not limited
to plotters, digitizers, CAD, rubber sheeting software and GPS software.
Assist citizens in person or over the telephone with complaints or questions they have concerning county
map data which can be addressed through knowledge of or review of maps and records. Correct records
when supported by evidence.
Review legal descriptions for errors on new plat, boundary line adjustments and road vacations.
Review new subdivision and county district boundary maps. Revise specified source maps accordingly,
constructing new maps where needed.
Maintain a record filing system which tracks control accuracy, changes, pertinent notes and computations.
Maintain a filing system for recorded surveys and plats.
Assist the segregation function in determining the proper division of parcels by location and by size.
Analyze complex property descriptions and research historical records. Segregation duties may include
the assignment of tax numbers, the updating of the Assessor's abbreviated legal description identifiers,
and the division of geographic information according to parcel arrangements.
Participate, through informal interaction and through assisting with application development, in efforts to
implement and maintain a coordinated interagency computerized land identification and land use
information system.

Provide technical and occupational support to other employees and agencies in matters concerning map
related products and procedures such as planimetric and orthographic information, general land survey
applications and map identifiers.
Perform other tasks as directed.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Associate of Arts degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school
with courses relevant to pre -engineering fields such as mathematics, computer
applications, computer drafting and surveying; and three (3) years of specific working
experience in computer drafting; or equivalent combination of education and
experience.
Two (2) years of land title or land survey work may be substituted for one year of
drafting requirement.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional
journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports,
business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present
information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and
the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical
inference and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to
apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical
situations.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or
diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
COMPUTER SKILLS
To perform this job successfully an individual should have knowledge of database
software; AutoCAD computer aided drafting software; Internet software; MS
Excel spreadsheet software and MS Word, word processing software.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid Washington State Driver's License
OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of and ability to use AutoCAD for the drafting and maintenance of computer- generated
maps. Familiarity with writing simple routines.
Knowledge of cartographic principles and practices involved in the preparation of maps.
Knowledge of personal computers as they relate to CAD systems. Knowledge of personal computer
operating systems and the use of digitizer, plotters and drafting equipment.
Knowledge of aerial photos, digital orthophotos, legal property descriptions, deed records, real estate
transactions, surveys, plats and other documents and data sources pertaining to solving boundary and
ownership problems.

Knowledge of surveying principles and procedures and coordinate systems.
Ability to make mathematical and statistical computations, some involving the use of angular
measurements and fundamental trigonometric concepts.
Knowledge of how to gather information with global positioning system equipment and software for the
purpose of updating map features, such as shorelines, water courses and roads.
Ability to develop computer applications which contribute to the job scope.
Ability to work independently and be self -motivated to complete required deadlines while simultaneously
completing other tasks.
Must possess a pleasant and professional attitude to maintain good customer service relations with the
general public, other employees and representatives of other agencies.
Ability to exercise significant judgment or discretion to solve procedural or technically complex
problems.
