Share air time and encourage all members to participate DRAFT AGENDA January 29th, 2020 1:00 to 2:00 pm Jefferson County Library THE EMPOWERED TEENS COALITION, CHIMACUM Wednesday, January 29th, 2020 MEETING WILL BE FROM 1:00 – 2:00 Jefferson County Library PURPOSE OF THE MEETING: Discuss issues around membership, engagement, upcoming events, and learning opportunities. Time/Facilitator Activity 1:00 Denise and Chris HoffmanHill met to discuss how to better engage coalition members and, in response to January e-mail virtual meeting, how to proceed with a spring event focused on strong, positive relationships for youth in all parts of their life Chris shared highlights of the WLA convention’s Protective Childhood Experiences (PCE) breakout session and mentioned how much prevention work goes on in libraries. Denise and Chris discussed helping coalition members broaden their understanding of what prevention work looks like: i.e. libraries are doing prevention work by providing a place to read, attend programs, learn self-regulation skills; businesses that employ youth are doing prevention work by providing the opportunity to learn a skill, earn money, be responsible, have a purpose; schools … and so on. Discussed take away suggestions regarding ACEs/Resilience event last year: Suggested have pre-made Name Tags identifying attendees affiliation and role in that affiliation. Discussed upcoming ASB/Athletic Silent Auction event in Chimacum: partnering to borrow supplies, filling our table with prevention coalition members Discussed how to engage the churches and wellness committee at the school: Suggested “honoring” how these folks are already involved in prevention work. What a great job they’re doing. How their work dovetails with the coalition’s. Talked about fundraising events: passive event in which solicitations are made to previous funders privately. Then, at some point in the year, having a thank you party (rather than an “ask” event). Discussed the role alcohol plays at fundraisers and questioned the ethics. Began to focus on a plan for an upcoming event. 2:00 Closed Meeting Happy Holidays!!! The January 15, 2019 meeting of the Empowered Teens Coalition, Chimacum will be held at the CHIMACUM JUNIOR/SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL LIBRARY 3:30-4:30. . ALCOHOL AND OTHER DRUG PREVENTION IS GOOD WORK.
