SUBJECT: ACTIVATE NEW FUND FOR ELECTIONS DEPOSIT OF
IG-6888 "CARES ACT" GRANT FUNDS
STATEMENT OF ISSUE:
Jefferson County Elections is a subrecipient of the "CARES Act" grant funds (IG-6888). Per the
agreement, funds must be deposited into a separate, interest bearing account.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The agreement provides$153,422.47 to be received by Jefferson County Elections. These funds
are to be used to "prevent, prepare for, and respond to coronavirus, domestically or
internationally, for the 2020 Federal election cycle".
RECOMMENDATION:
Approve activating new fund.

WHEREAS, Jefferson County Elections is a subrecipient of the "2020 HAVA CARES Act" funds
(IG-6888) in the amount of$153,422.47; and
WHEREAS, the purpose of the funds is to "prevent, prepare for, and respond to coronavirus,
domestically or internationally, for the 2020 Federal election cycle; and
WHEREAS,the associated agreement calls for County Elections to place the funds in a separate,
interest bearing account where the funds will remain until spent by County Elections on allowable
activities under the agreement; and
WHEREAS, any funds not expended by December 31, 2020 along with any interest earned must
be remitted to Office of the Secretary of State; and
WHEREAS, activating a fund accomplishes the requirement of the agreement and makes the new
fund available to deposit funds into upon receipt; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Jefferson County Board of Commissioners
hereby directs the Jefferson County Auditor to activate Fund 103-000-010—IG-6888 Elections COVID
Grant per the Attachment A -Award Identification attached to this resolution effective May 18, 2020.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the interest earned from the monies invested by the Jefferson
County Treasurer from this fund shall be deposited to the fund.
