STATEMENT OF ISSUE:
The Jefferson County Commissioners will consider the PROCLAMATION re: Proclaiming June 2020
as Cashier and Customer Service Month

Approve Proclamation re: Proclaiming June 2020 as Cashier and Customer Service Month

PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, the coronavirus pandemic has been a clear display of the disparity in social
determinants of health, and has affected cashiers and customer service personnel disproportionally,
many of who lack access to affordable health care, appropriate sick leave, and/or job flexibility; and,
WHEREAS, cashiers and customer service employees, though amongst the lowest paid employees
in our society, continue to work on the front lines to provide services to the public during this global
coronavirus pandemic, and do so at their own personal risk of being exposed to COVID-19; and,
WHEREAS, a positive cashier and customer service experience elevates a satisfactory consumer
experience to an exceptional one; and,
WHEREAS, throughout history, cashiers and customer service personnel have been essential jobs
across all sectors, from governmental organizations, to small and large businesses, to non-profits;
and,
WHEREAS,just as in previous disease outbreaks, cashiers and customer service personnel have
continued to come to work to serve the public while putting themselves at risk;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT, the Jefferson County Commissioners do
hereby proclaim June 2020 as:
CASHIER AND CUSTOMER SERVICE MONTH
in Jefferson County and ask all residents of this community join us in honoring our
COURAGEOUS CASHIERS AND CUSTOMER SERVICE WORKERS who are essential
workers in our community and improve our shopping experiences, and show our appreciation not
just during this month, but at every opportunity throughout the year.
