December 5, 1979 Robert Reeves-- P.O. Box 92 Port Townsend, Washington 98368 RE: Sewage Disposal Permit - Section 32 Township 31 North Range 1 West Dear Mr. Reeves: On November 30, 1979 a visit to your site was made to evaluate your proposed building plans in regard to sewage disposal. Lars Erickson was also present to point out the location of the septic tank and drainfield. Your proposal involves utilizing an existing septic tank and drainfield. The building location has been moved away from the bluff in the direction of the drainfield. This creates several potential problems: 71 1) The changed house location puts the house on the outlet side of the septic tank. In order for the effluent to enter the septic tank, two ninety degree bends would be necessary. Angles this great can easily plug creating additional maintenance expense. 2) The changed house location is directly above the pipe which runs to the drainfield. Setting a building above the pipe may crush the pipe and repair will not be possible, along with any necessary future maintenance. Several options are available to you: 1)- The house site can be moved further up the bluff. 2) Leave the house site where it is and either move or abandon the existing tank. The existing tank or a new one can be, placed on the other side of the house and connected to the existing pipe leading to the d -box. Leave house and system as is and risk increased maintenance and ossible future broken sewer line under your home.
