Appointed committee members present at the meeting were Helle Anderson (Clallam County Rep.), Jennifer Hagen (Quileute Tribe Rep.), John Hunter (Citizen Rep., Clallam County – Education/Environmental Groups), Julie Ann Kohlinger (Hoh Tribe Rep.), Katie Krueger (Citizen Rep., Clallam County – Scientific Community), Tami Pokorny (Jefferson County Rep., Coordinator/Facilitator), Alice Ryan (Citizen Rep., Clallam County – Recreational Groups), and Jill Silver (Citizen Rep., Jefferson County – Conservation/Environmental Groups). A quorum was present at the meeting. Also present were Rebekah Brooks (Rebekah Brooks Contracting), Chris Butler-Minor (Olympic Coast National Marine Sanctuary [OCNMS]), Gabrielle Genhart (OCNMS), Nicole Harris (OCNMS) and Rich Osborne (ONRC). Introductions A quorum was not established during the meeting. Public Comments There were no public comments. Additions to and Approval of the Agenda There were no changes to the agenda. Announcements There were no announcements. Old Business There was no old business since this was a special meeting. New Business Near-term Education/Outreach Opportunities Nicole Harris presented on Surfrider’s plan to host a virtual Olympic Peninsula screening of The Story of Plastic with a panel of local community members to follow, and asked the NPC MRC if they would be willing to sponsor the event along with several other partners. Support from the NPC MRC would include financial backing, helping to promote the event, and being willing to help put together a panel of experts. Gabrielle Genhart presented on the complimentary event: the REThink Fair, which is hosted by CoastSavers and will include a series of videos and trivia questions about reusing, recycling and reducing marine debris. The group discussed the possibilities of contributing some of the videos that were submitted for the River and Ocean Film Festival, how to engage student participation, and the support of local films and film making. *Tami Pokorny offered to contact Ian Miller about Film Festival videos. Nicole gave an update on CoastSavers; they are working on effective outreach NPC MRC 6/2/2020 FINAL Special Meeting Summary 2 and moving forward for a September beach cleanup, although efforts may look different given COVID-19-related challenges. CoastSavers is also asking for support for a 7/5/20 cleanup, but expectations are unclear at this point. *Nicole will send out dates for The Story of Plastic event and said that any suggestions for panel members would be appreciated. Next Agenda (June 16, 2020): The next NPC MRC Meeting will be held over Zoom connection on 6/16/20. Public Comments/General There were no public comments.
