Re: BLD15-0058: Camp Parsons Dining Hall - Automatic Fire Sprinkler System, 970 Bee Mill
Road,Brinnon
This consulting fire code inspector and plans examiner is in receipt of the set of plans and specifications
for the above-referenced permit application from your office.
The above-reference proposal was reviewed by this department relative to the International Fire Code
[I.F.C.], 2012 Edition, as amended by Washington State amendments from W.A.C. Chapter 51.54, and
with N.F.P.A. 13, 2013 Edition.
Findings&Determinations:
1. The automatic fire sprinkler system is found to be designed by a licensed fire protection engineer,
and shall be installed by a licensed technician(W.A.C. 212-80).
2. The plan set denotes the 2010 version of N.F.P.A. 13 as the compliance path, however, as noted
above, this plan review is based upon the 2013 version. The sprinkler designer shall review their plans
under the 2013 requirements and submit a plan revision if necessary.
3. The "Fire Sprinkler Equipment Submittal" manufacturer's "cut sheets" [received March 12] are
found to be consistent with the requirements from N.F.P.A. 13, Section 6.1.1.2.
4. Sprinkler protection is to be provided in all closets and compartments, including those areas housing
mechanical equipment, that are not larger than 400 ft3 in size, where a single sprinkler at the highest
ceiling space is sufficient without regard to obstructions or minimum distance to the wall. This
requirement is now included in the 2013 Edition of N.F.P.A. 13 Section 8.5.5.4 and is applicable to small
spaces in all occupancies.
5. Overhangs having a depth of greater than four[4] feet are normally required to be provided sprinkler
protection under fixed obstructions per N.F.P.A. 13, Section 8.5.5.3.1. The proponent will be filling the
interior voids with insulation.
6. The Fire Department Connection has a plan call for 2.5" x 2.5" x 4" connection. This plan call is
consistent with the Fire Chief for Brinnon Fire Department. The Fire Chief will require Storz brand
locking 2.5"caps for this assembly.
CL
7. The annular space at the concrete floor where the fire service main and riser shall meet current 0
N.F.P.A. sizing requirements, normally two [2] inches nominal based upon the pipe size being greater
than 3 inches. + op
.1
1 ,„
8. The automatic sprinkler system shall be confidence tested with the presence of a Jefferson County
inspector, and a formal "Contractor's Material & Test Certificate" shall be filed at the completion of
testing and approval with the owner and Jefferson County.
9. A complete set of as-built drawing[s] shall be filed for record with East Jefferson Fire & Rescue,
and a final plan set[s] provided at on premises near the sprinkler riser, to be protected from moisture
damage. Any changes from the permit set filed with Jefferson County shall be recorded with the permit
file.
Any other applicable or relevant sections of said Code not covered herein shall nonetheless apply to this
proposal.
2.5 hours time was logged in consultation, plan review, report, and filing of this plan review.
It is the recommendation of this plans examiner that the permit application approval can be completed
subject to the applicable aforesaid requirements.
