Dt: 12 January 2015 Re: BLD15-0008,Jefferson Transit Automatic Fire Sprinkler System Cc: None This consulting fire code inspector and plans examiner is in receipt of the set of plans for the above- referenced permit application from your office. The above-reference proposal was reviewed by this department relative to the International Fire Code R.F.C.], 2012 Edition, as amended by Washington State amendments from W.A.C. Chapter 51.54, and with N.F.P.A. 13,2013 Edition. Findings&Determinations: 1. The automatic fire sprinkler system is found to be designed by a licensed fire protection engineer, and shall be installed by a licensed technician (W.A.C. 212-80). The current license stamp date reads December of 2014,however, upon contact with the designer by Jefferson County, the designer's license is current, as the State of Washington routinely has a lapse in providing current documentation at this time of year. 1.1 The plan set denotes the 2010 version of N.F.P.A. 13 as the compliance path, however, as noted above, this plan review is based upon the 2013 version. The sprinkler designer shall review their plans under the 2013 requirements and submit a plan revision if necessary. 2. Sprinkler protection is found to be provided in all closets and compartments, including those areas housing mechanical equipment, that are not larger than 400 ft3 in size, where a single sprinkler at the highest ceiling space is sufficient without regard to obstructions or minimum distance to the wall. This requirement is now included in the 2013 Edition of N.F.P.A. 13 Section 8.5.5.4 and is applicable to small spaces in all occupancies. 3. A complete set of as-built drawings and if available, a system design CD, shall be filed for record with East Jefferson Fire & Rescue, and a final plan set[s] provided at site. Any changes from the permit set filed with Jefferson County shall be recorded with the permit file. 4. Contact the Public Utility District No. I of Jefferson County prior to installation of the backflow prevention device to inquire about any required inspection and approval by that agency. 5. The automatic sprinkler system shall be inter-tied with the automatic fire alarm system as proposed under the fire alarm system permit and contractor. 6. Overhangs having a depth of greater than four[4] feet are normally required to be provided sprinkler protection under fixed obstructions per N.F.P.A. 13, Section 8.5.5.3.1. The main entry and equipment bay doors are noted that this provision is not required. 7. The proposed riser assembly shall be kept accessible without storage encumbrances. 8. The underground fire service main and appurtenances have been permitted and inspected. 9. The East Jefferson Fire & Rescue Operations Chief shall verify the size and number of connection port[s] for the stand-alone F.D.C., normally a single locking four-inch "Storz" brand, and fitted to a downturn pipe, as allowed under N.F.P.A. 13 Section 6.8.1.1. 9. The annular space at the concrete floor where the fire service main and riser shall meet current N.F.P.A. sizing requirements, normally two [2] inches nominal based upon the pipe size being greater than 3 inches. 10. The automatic sprinkler system shall be confidence tested with the presence of a Jefferson County inspector, and a formal "Contractor's Material & Test Certificate" shall be filed at the completion of testing and approval with the owner and Jefferson County. Any other applicable or relevant sections of said Code not covered herein shall nonetheless apply to this proposal. 2.0 hours time was logged in consultation, plan review, report, and filing of this plan review. It is the recommendation of this plans examiner that the permit application approval can be completed subject to the applicable aforesaid requirements. Attachment[s]: 1.
