HomeMy WebLinkAboutFacilities Custodian JEFFERSON COUNTY Job Description Job Title: Facilities Custodian Department: Central Services Reports To: Facilities Custodial Supervisor FLSA Exempt: No Union: UFCW BBP: Potential Exposure HIPAA: Level 3 Salary Level: Grade 22 Approved By: Human Resources Manager r,. , Approval Date: July 2020 SUMMARY: Performs routine and regular cleaning, custodial and maintenance work of assigned County buildings and may perform grounds maintenance work as directed, by performing the following duties. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Wet and dry mop floors. Vacuums, strips, washes and buffs floors, operates power cleaning equipment, mechanical cleaners and polishers, and mixes cleaning solutions as directed. Vacuums, spot cleans and shampoos carpets; empties and cleans waste receptacles; dusts, waxes, washes and polishes furniture, counters, woodwork and metalwork. Cleans and washes window, walls, windowsills and screens as assigned. Cleans restrooms and replenishes supplies. Sweeps sidewalks and performs grounds maintenance duties as directed. Moves and arranges furniture and equipment as required. Turns out lights and locks doors and windows upon completion of night shift. Observes and reports to Supervisor the need for repairs beyond the scope of this classification. Makes minor, non- technical repairs, including but not limited to replacing light bulbs. Cleans and disinfects clinic exam rooms at the County Health Department according to instruction and specifications. Prepares cost estimates on projects or assignments as requested. Orders materials and supplies as required. Jefferson County Job Description: Central Services, Facilities Custodian Page 2 of 4 Stays abreast of current trends, issues,practices, etc. in the custodial maintenance field, including development of new practices that improve economies of facility custodial maintenance. Accountable for specific project steps in a team based environment. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position has no supervisory responsibilities. Jefferson County Job Description: Central Services, Facilities Custodian Page 3 of 4 EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE High school diploma/GED and two (2) years' experience in custodial maintenance, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. REASONING ABILITY Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. COMPUTER SKILLS To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of database software; Internet software; EXCEL Spreadsheet software and WORD Word Processing software. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES,REGISTRATIONS: Valid Washington State Driver's license. First Aid/CPR certification. Must pass a thorough background investigation which includes being fingerprinted. OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to successfully complete the annual training in handling blood borne pathogens, the annual training as assigned. Knowledge of the Jefferson County Exposure Control Plan. Knowledge of standard cleaning methods and equipment used in custodial work including brooms, wet mops, dust mops, vacuums, scouring devices and wax applicators. Knowledge of standard cleaning materials such as soaps,powders, waxes and polishes. Knowledge of all custodial routes and duties to allow for flexible coverage. Ability to work with subordinates, public and supervisors. Maintain a high standard for accuracy, completeness, and efficiency in carrying out work assignments. Ability to be independent and self- motivated to complete required deadlines while simultaneously completing other tasks. Ability to successfully complete various required training classes and obtain certificates necessary for functional skills performance, maintenance, and improvement. Ability to work shift work as required. Ability to communicate and work effectively with the public,peers, and supervisors.
