SUMMARY:
Performs a variety of advanced bookkeeping and clerical activities involving complex fiscal
record keeping and reporting. Performs other clerical duties and general office assistance as
required, by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following, other duties may be
assigned.
Keeps a complete set of accounting records for various small departments or functions or keeps
one or more sections of a set of books for a large department or major function within the
County's operations.
Verifies the accuracy of figures, calculations, and posting pertaining to financial transactions
recorded. Posts and balance subsidiary ledgers such as accounts payable or accounts receivable
and transfer data to general ledger.
Performs reconciliation, balances books and compiles reports on a recurring basis to show
statistics, such as cash receipts and expenditures, accounts payable and receivable, and other
items pertaining to the operation of the County. Traces transactions through previous accounting
actions to determine sources of discrepancy when encountered.
Assists in the calculation of employee wages from departmental records on time cards. Assists in
computing and preparing payroll and making payroll distribution. Assists in the preparation of
warrants for payment of wages. Assists in the preparation of withholding, Social Security and
other tax reports.
Reviews and prepares records of financial transactions for entry of information into electronic
data processing system. Performs preliminary coding, calculations, allocations, segregation or
classifications as required. Enters and updates information into computer system according to
standardized formats.
Assists in the preparation of financial reports, budgets, documents, memos, and the monthly
closing of books. Assists in the planning of new or revised accounting procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty
satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and three (3) years
experience in progressively responsible clerical and bookkeeping positions, including
two (2) years experience as an Account Clerk I for Jefferson County.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and
maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports
and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or
employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to calculate figures and amo
unts such as discounts, interest, commissions,
proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts
of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in
situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of
instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of database
software; Internet software; Excel spreadsheet and WORD word processing software.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES,REGISTRATIONS:
Valid Washington State Driver's License
OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of Federal, State, and County policies and regulations affecting area of
responsibility.
Ability to accurately search columns of numbers in small print for errors, data entry and related
purposes.
Ability to develop, improve, and install accounting and bookkeeping procedures and systems in
the interest of efficiency, effectiveness and standardization.
Ability to use office equipment typically used in area of assignment.
Ability to maintain a high standard for accuracy, completeness, and efficiency in the preparation
of reports and budgets.
