HomeMy WebLinkAboutAccounts Auditing Specialist JEFFERSON COUNTY Job Description Job Title: Accounts Auditing Specialist Department: Auditor REPORTS TO: Auditor FLSA Exempt(YIN): No UNION: UFCW BBP: No Salary Level: Grade 25 Location: Courthouse r, Approved By: Human Resources Manager it Approved Date: March 2019 SUMMARY Performs a variety of advanced bookkeeping activities involving complex fiscal record keeping and reporting, maintains accounting records and performs various financial and administrative support functions by performing the following duties. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: Other duties may be assigned. Designs and maintains systems to provide financial information for reports required from Department. Assists in planning of new or revised accounting procedures. Keeps one or more sections of a set of books for a large department or major functions within the County's operations. Assists in the preparation of financial reports, budgets, and monthly closing of books. Performs reconciliations, balances books and compiles reports on a recurring basis to show statistics, such as cash receipt and expenditures, accounts payable and receivable and other items pertaining to the operations of the department and the County. Traces transactions through previous accounting actions to determine sources of discrepancy when encountered. Operates computers to record data and maintain records of transactions. Reviews and prepares records of financial transactions for entry of information into computerized accounting system. Preforms preliminary coding, calculations, allocations, segregation, or classification as required. Responds orally or in writing to inquires routed from other departments outside agencies, supplying information or opinions and instructions as authorized; directs difficult situations to proper individuals. Prepares, updates and monitors: I)the assignment of vendor numbers for the County General Fund and outside agencies; 2)the monthly accounting/payroll calendar for County departments and special agency funds; 3)the inventory system for accounting or fixed assets for most County funds; and 4) annual reestablishment of petty cash and cash accounts. Assists in the preparation of financial reports, budgets, documents, memos and the monthly and year end closing of books. Assists in the review, development and installation of bookkeeping and accounting procedures and systems. QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and four(4) years of progressively responsible experience in bookkeeping; experience and/or training in record keeping; equivalent combination of education and experience. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret graphs. REASONING ABILITY Ability to understand moderately complex instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in situations. CERTIFICATES,LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Valid Washington State Driver's License OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of governmental accounting principles and methods. Knowledge of bookkeeping, accounting and secretarial processes. Ability to use various office equipment standard to area of assignment and to adapt to new and/or modified equipment which may be acquired. Ability to operate personal computer and knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software. Ability to maintain a high standard for accuracy, completeness, efficiency in the preparation of reports. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with other departments, outside agencies, and the general public.
