SUMMARY:
Provides support to Probation Counselors and performs clerical procedures and systems related
to adult offenders by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the fallowing. Other duties maybe
assigned:
Position is responsible to monitor an offender's compliance with treatment obligations as
determined by professional treatment providers.
Reports offender noncompliance with the conditions of the Court's sentence.
Coordinates treatment referral information, and monitors community agencies for statutory
reporting compliance.
Reviews daily mail for compliance and noncompliance reports and then inputs reports into
computer database.
Interviews offenders over the phone and in person to obtain information about their case. In
addition to work in the office,maybe required to do work in the Courtroom and in the jail.
Performs back-up to clerical position in the Department on an as needed basis.

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform
each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Associates (AA)Degree in Criminal Justice, Psychology or Social Services and a
minimum of three (3) years' experience working in a Court office or a public or
private legal setting in the State of Washington; or an equivalent combination of
education and experience. Experience with offenders in either a formal or
volunteer setting is desirable.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as legal pleadings, court orders,
safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write
routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole

numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and
percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry instructions furnished in
written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several
concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES,REGISTRATIONS
Valid Washington State Driver's License
Must pass a Criminal History Check which may include being fingerprinted
Must successfully complete the Probation Academy within one (1) year of appointment,
including that portion addressing the risk assessment and case management process.
OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of legal practices and procedures and legal terminology and document formats.
Knowledge of the processes around change, motivational interviewing and other techniques
supporting the Case Management process.
Ability to operate a computer terminal and standard office machines.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to secure and impart information accurately.
Ability to use tact and judgment in responding to public, law enforcement, offenders, and
officials from other agencies.
Ability to remain calm and productive in a busy office environment under stressful conditions.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, public
officials and the general public.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
