HomeMy WebLinkAboutWSU Extension - Program Assistant - 4-H Youth Program JEFFERSON COUNTY Job Description Job Title: Program Assistant-4-H Youth Program Department: Cooperative Extension Reports To: Cooperative Extension Chairman/Agent FLSA Exempt(Y/N): No Union: UFCW BBP: No Salary Level: Grade 20 Shift: Part Time(less than 35 hours per week) Location: Cooperative Extension Office Approved By: Human Resources Manager Approved Date: SUMMARY Assists with development,conduct and evaluation of 4-H Youth programs, including recruitment, promotion, orientation,and support of new and veteran 4-H leaders,as directed by agency program staff, by performing the following duties. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Supervise new Leader screening and maintain files; act as liaison between Cooperative Extension Office and 4-H Leaders Council.Attends monthly meetings as required. Participate as a member of the new Leader training team. Plans program details to meet needs and interests of individual members.Assists leaders with new projects and activities as well as traditional activities. Gather information and write 4-H Newsletter; complete 4-H enrollments to comply with WSU standards; coordinate County and State Fair activities for 4-H including: Helps with scheduling,answer questions, support 4-H Leaders and parents and coordinating 4-H activities and project for the State Fair. Acts as chaperon for out of County 4-H activities and training events. Becomes familiar with and maintains 4-H files. Files correspondence, reports,and other materials. Performs classification of material when property classification is not immediately discernable. Helps develop new skills and interests. Works with part-time or volunteer staff. Performs clerical and reception and filing duties for Cooperative Extension Office as requested or required. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position has no supervisory responsibilities. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE High school diploma or general education degree(GED); and one(1)year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence,and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.Ability to effectively present information in one- on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract,multiply,and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers,common fractions,and decimals.Ability to compute rate,ratio,and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. REASONING ABILITY Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. CERTIFICATES,LICENSES,REGISTRATIONS Valid Washington State Driver's License OTHER KNOWLEDGE,SKILLS AND ABILITIES Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers,volunteers, public officials and the general public.
