Jefferson County
Board of Commissioners
Agenda Request
To: Board of Commissioners
Philip Morley, County Administrator
From: Monte Reinders, P.E., Public Works Director/County Engineer
Agenda Date: November 23, 2020
Subject: Beausite Lake Road Closure (County Road #519009)
Statement of Issue: Temporary closure of Beausite Lake Road, County Road # 51900, from
MP 0.0 (intersection with West Valley Road) to the end of the road at MP 0.7 to all but
authorized persons, to allow safe tree felling and logging operations. The closure is scheduled
to begin November 23, 2020 and will end when tree felling and logging operations are
completed (estimated duration 90 days).
Analysis/Strategic Goals/Pro's Et Con's: Tree thinning and logging operations are scheduled
on County owned property adjacent to and within the Beausite Road right-of-way. These
operations can be hazardous to nearby persons and property. Closing Beausite Lake Road will
reduce public exposure to these operations. Authorized person (persons involved in the
logging operation, Beausite Camp maintenance staff, Jefferson County parks and road
maintenance staff, and those involved in an emergency response) will be able to use the road
during this closure. There are no residences along the road and Beausite Camp will be closed
during this road closure.
Fiscal Impact/Cost Benefit Analysis: Other than the small cost to erect, maintain, and
remove the road closure signs, there will be no cost to the county associated with this road
closure.
Recommendation: Sign the road closure resolution which directs Public Works to erect
barriers and barricades to protect the traveling public by preventing unauthorized use of the
roadway for the duration of the tree felling and logging operation.
