DRAFT MINUTES
The September 16th, 2020 meeting of the Empowered Teens Coalition was held at the Zoom meeting 3:30 – 4:10
PURPOSE OF THE MEETING: Report on COVID-19 updates; recent and upcoming activities Action Plan Webinar; Character Strong and Play Therapy Meetings; Discussion: Messaging as a result of COVID-19; Recruitment of new members
Facilitators for this meeting: Denise Banker In attendance: Mark Gudger, Brian Tracer, Melinda Miller, Karen Obermeyer, Lindsay Scalf, Ciela Meyer, Chris HoffmanHill; Joe Nole.
Time/Facilitator Activity 3:30 Denise Called meeting to order.
3:42 Denise Check in and Update: Ciela: New Position with OESD 114; Mark: Start of school; Chris: Library operations (Library has 4 laptops available for use in parking lot). Joe reported the sheriff’s office has a new drug disposal box available. Karen: Smart Approaches to Marijuana and upcoming Federal legislation. 3:43 Denise Report: ~Congratulation to Ciela Meyer on her new position Regional Behavioral
Health Coordinator for OESD 114! We will miss Ciela at the school, but she will remain involved in the Coalition. ~Character Strong: Mark updated the group on how students and faculty were responding to Character Strong. ~Upcoming Events/workshops: Guiding Good Choices (Oct. and Nov.). We have three families for October. Will advertise in newspapers. Drug
Take Back will be October 24th at QFC in Port Hadlock, and JCPH in Port Townsend. Community Surveys: 360 needed. Will send links periodically through December. ~Thought experiment: Responses to “what does the phrase cultural
norms mean: Fluid-family to family; determined by demographics/geographic locale; youth norms vs. adult norms; distinction—based on values systems; ideas re. my norms are everyone’s norms (one right way); standards people hold themselves to;

ALCOHOL AND OTHER DRUG PREVENTION IS GOOD WORK.
