Share air time and encourage all members to participate DRAFT MINUTES The November 18th, 2020 meeting of the Empowered Teens Coalition was held at the Zoom meeting 3:30 – 4:30 PURPOSE OF THE MEETING: Reports: community update and news; SAP update; discuss Marijuana policy Update; Scheduling Life Skills in JSHS; Guiding Good Choice March/April; Renting Space in Teen Center; Good Behavior Game letter to Stakeholders Facilitators for this meeting: Denise Banker In attendance: Mark Gudger, David Engle, Lindsay Scalf, Ciela Meyer, Chris HoffmanHill, Stephanie Tell, Melinda Miller, Erica White. Time/Facilitator Activity 3:30 Denise Called meeting to order. Approve Agenda: Chris, Ciela, all; Minutes: Lindsay, Mark, all. 3:35 Denise Check in and Update: Ciela: Introduced us to Erica White, the newly hired JSHS Student Assistance Profession; Denise: Guiding Good Choices, Wellness Committee SM blast in February, Ongoing difficulty in connecting with TH, re. LifeSkills. 4:00 Denise Report: ~Welcomed Erica, who then introduced herself. We each introduced ourselves. Thanked Ciela for her services and reminded her “once a Cowboy, always a Cowboy!” Thank you Ciela Meyer for all the good work you have done to support students over the last several years. ~Discussion when to have the Spring Guiding Good Choices. Chris asked that we let her know so she can post to library’s Newsletter. ~Discussed the policy updates (3424 Opioid Related Overdose Reversal; 3423 Parental Administration of Marijuana for Medical Purposes). Dr. Engle suggested we allow the board to work on its first drafts of the Opioid policy before we bring the Medical Marijuana policy forward. ~Upcoming Events/workshops: Hosting Vaping prevention in the school district. Suggested we bring the 6th graders up to JSHS for the presentation. Schedule for May. ~Discussion of possibility of renting space in the Teen Center so we have more access to students, a better way to involve students in the coalition’s work, better access to the student assistance professional, EMPOWERED TEENS COALITION Mission: Youth, families, and community working together to prevent underage substance use and abuse. Decided to create a presentation for the Teen Center with the caveat this would begin in Fall 2021. ~Our next meeting will be Wednesday, December 16th via Zoom. 4:30 Denise Meeting ended at 4:20. The December 16th, 2020 meeting of the Empowered Teens Coalition will be held at the Via Zoom from 3:30-4:30, unless otherwise notified. ALCOHOL AND OTHER DRUG PREVENTION IS GOOD WORK.
