Dear Jefferson County LTAC,
We would like to respectfully request a total of $41,250 ($14470.00 2020 Award
Allocated to 2021) from Jefferson County LTAC for marketing and staffing to
promote the western portion of Jefferson County.
The request includes staffing costs for two Kalaloch Ranger Station staff
members from May 14 --- September 30, 2021.
This staffing allows the Ranger Station to stay open to visitors all through the
summer, five days per week 5-14 to 6-17, and seven days per week beginning 6-
18. It provides information, assistance, and personal attention to travelers.
It also includes staffing at the Forks Visitor Information Center for an average of
20 hours per week. The Forks Visitor Information Center is the only year-round,
open daily (except New Year's Day, Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas) Visitor
Information Center on the west end of Clallam and Jefferson County. In 2020,
we were probably the only visitor center open consistently since June 15t. While
we are located in Clallam County, not Jefferson County, we are the same
community. We offer information on lodging, businesses and destinations in
Jefferson County. We mail out packets to those seeking area information,
including personalized email packets. Our facility retains records of numbers of
visitors with our visitor count on the next page. We have a proven track record of
providing quality information and services and it shows with our steady (and
increasing in some months) visitor numbers.
In 2021 we hope to expand our "Lodging Concierge Service" to assist travelers
with "day of lodging needs. Our goal is to keep visitors in our area longer, so our
area lodging businesses thrive which adds lodging tax dollars to our area. With
this service, we will be available and on call until 9pm from May 22-25, then
weekends until July. We will be on call daily until August 29. We have requested
15% of our overall budget of this program from Jefferson County.
Jefferson County tourism would benefit by travelers staying in the area longer,
which increases occupancy, adds to lodging tax funds, and to area sales tax. It
keeps people in the area which results in meals, services, food, souvenirs, and
fuel being purchased, and may result in the traveler visiting the area again. This
service would be available to Forks and the west end of Jefferson County, and
would be open to all lodging businesses operating with a UBI#, within our west
end geographical area.
We also have opportunities to participate in ad co-ops with Olympic Peninsula
Tourism Commission to promote off peak season travel. We mail packets, each
containing information featuring the Rain Forest Country Adventure Map to "bulk"
addresses and those who request information from us personally. This map is
also given out to the thousands of people who enter our Visitor Center and who
visit the Kalaloch Visitor Center, along with other visitor centers throughout
Washington.
Our marketing, along with the marketing of our partners in the area, and the
Olympic Peninsula Tourism Commission has resulted in a huge increase of
visitors to the Hoh Rainforest. This has been seen with the increase in wait times
to get in to the ONP section of the rain forest.
New this year, we are excited to have one of the three Gravel Unravel races
taking place in the Hoh Rainforest. From the Peninsula Adventure Sports website
"Gravel Unravel is a brand new endurance bicycle event series on the gravel
road systems of the Olympic Peninsula. Each event will have short, medium,
and long courses, and all are followed by food and beer. *Food and beer
provided according to covid guidelines in place on race day." This new bicycle
event will draw people from all over Washington and the PNW. The race is
competitive and also features a non-competitive opportunity for those who want
to ride it for leisure, or use E-bikes! Of the three races in the series, two will be
held in Jefferson County. We hope to support this new event by using lodging
funds to market the event to bring tourists to Jefferson County.
In summary, we diligently work to market the western portion of Jefferson
County, just as we do Clallam County, Forks, and the surrounding area — all of
which is first and foremost, our community. We work to increase overnight stays
in area lodging establishments. We strive to bring people here in the off-peak
season, when the rain forest is at its most beautiful and beaches are perfect for
storm watching and strolling.
Thank you for your time and consideration.

Hi Lissy,
Programmed costs this year for operation of the Kalaloch Ranger Station amount to $19,794.
As in previous years, we will employ two Kalaloch staff -members from the donated funds. Birdie James will be
full-time from May 14 through the end of September (784 hours), and the remainder will be spent on
coverage on her off days (240 hours).
The Kalaloch Ranger Station will be staffed 5 days/week starting on 5/14/21, and 7 days/week from 6/18 to
9/30/21.
Great to hear from you and happy holidays!
Thank You,
—Jared

Hi Jared,
Hope you are doing wells Things are finally slowing down a bit out here. Summer was crazy as you know @
I'm working on the Jefferson County lodging tax application and I need information regarding the staff person for
Kalaloch in 2021. Can you give me a cost estimate for the staffer for next year? I also need a breakdown with start and
finish date, and number of hours, etc. Planning for best case scenario, of course.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
