To the DCD and to Planners Cynthia, Lorna, Michael, LD, Matt, Arlene, Kevin, Richard and Chris,
I have to begin my comments with praise for the BoCC’s choice of Austin Watkins as consultant and for David Wayne Johnson of the DCD on the DCD recom mendations of the 2020 Jefferson County Docket issue MLA19-00019. The
work isn’t easy. In the case of MLA19-00019, the possibility of changing previous permitting rules that are County wide can be daunting with the effects far reaching. That said, I support the DCD’s recommendation on this issue
wholeheartedly.
I also want to thank the individuals on the Planning Comm ission who went to considerable effort in research and deliberations before suggesting that MLA19-00019 be placed on the 2019 Docket.
And thank you to the BoCC who held true to their prom ise that it would be on the 2020 Docket. Who could predict it would be such an unprecedented year. Yet the County work has continued.
You’ve all received hundreds of letters over the years containing fact based reasons for re-addressing the marijuana issue as presented in MLA19-00019, plus petitions with hundreds of names, all indicating that Jefferson County citizens
are in support of rem oving marijuana producing and processing from all Rural Residential county lands. You all have pages of our specific arguments from our research, so I won’t belabor them here. This issue is once again on your
table. I have every faith that your best efforts will prevail.
This specific burden lifted from the shoulders of the DCD will give it back time and some resources to pursue better, more profitable ways to enrich the County. And the Planing Com mission m em bers will be free to pursue other
pressing issues to move Jefferson County into the ever evolving future. Thank you all for your consideration.
