RE:
Amendment
to
Jefferson
County
Code
Dear
County
Officials:
Please
accept
this
letter
as
my
request
that
you
urge
the
Board
of
County
Commissioners
to
change
county
law
such
that
commercial
grow
and
processing
marijuana
facilities
are
prohibited
within
ALL
Rural
Residential
zones
in
Jefferson
County.
The
existing
"conditional
use
permit"
approach
places
an
unfair
burden
on
the
affected
neighborhood
as
well
as
the
business
developer.
Had
such
a
prohibition
been
in
place
four
years
ago,
Marrowstone
Islanders
would
not
have
been
burdened
with
over
$50,000
in
legal
expenses.
Moreover,
our
county
could
have
saved
itself
the
distraction
and
expense
of
two
overflow-‐crowd
public
hearings
with
untold
wasted
hours
of
county
staff
time.
Clearly,
our
county
is
long
overdue
for
an
outright
prohibition
of
commercial
marijuana
grow/process
on
rural-‐residential
properties.
I
thank
you
for
your
efforts
at
resolving
this
issue
with
our
BOCC.
Experience
has
more
than
demonstrated
that
commercial
marijuana
grow
and
process
operations
have
no
place
within
a
rural
residential
setting,
and
must
therefore
be
entirely
prohibited.
Sincerely,
Lee
