HomeMy WebLinkAbout15 Lee Does_2                Lee  M.  Does                  8802  Flagler  Road                  Nordland,  WA  98358                  ldoes@frontier.com     5  February  2021     TO:  Jefferson  County  Planning  Commission    Department  of  Community  Development    621  Sheridan  Street    Port  Townsend,  WA  98368     RE:  Amendment  to  Jefferson  County  Code     Dear  County  Officials:   Please  accept  this  letter  as  my  request  that  you  urge  the  Board  of  County   Commissioners  to  change  county  law  such  that  commercial  grow  and  processing   marijuana  facilities  are  prohibited  within  ALL  Rural  Residential  zones  in  Jefferson   County.     The  existing  "conditional  use  permit"  approach  places  an  unfair  burden  on  the   affected  neighborhood  as  well  as  the  business  developer.  Had  such  a  prohibition   been  in  place  four  years  ago,  Marrowstone  Islanders  would  not  have  been  burdened   with  over  $50,000  in  legal  expenses.  Moreover,  our  county  could  have  saved  itself   the  distraction  and  expense  of  two  overflow-­‐crowd  public  hearings  with  untold   wasted  hours  of  county  staff  time.  Clearly,  our  county  is  long  overdue  for  an  outright   prohibition  of  commercial  marijuana  grow/process  on  rural-­‐residential  properties.     I  thank  you  for  your  efforts  at  resolving  this  issue  with  our  BOCC.  Experience  has   more  than  demonstrated  that  commercial  marijuana  grow  and  process  operations   have  no  place  within  a  rural  residential  setting,  and  must  therefore  be  entirely   prohibited.     Sincerely,       Lee  M.  Does   copies:  mail  DCD    emailed:  dcd@co.jefferson.wa.us
