Dixie Llewellin, Principal Biologist 856 50th Street Port Townsend, WA 98368 360 385-6432 dixie@cablespeed.com December 18, 2020 Craig Durgan PO Box 1328 Port Hadlock, WA 98339 d;#'.:r'Jr116r1'r', s 11 T29N R lW Site visit At the request of Shane Harper and Simon Little studio STL, Dixie Llewellin, Olympic Wefland Resources, LLC (OWR) evaluated findings from a previous wetland delineation for Craig Durgan, Madne Storage. This Wefland Determination was conducted by Wiltermood and Associates, INC (September 6, 2006). The Jefferson County Critical Areas Maps (Intemet) indicates a large wetland extending on the north and east portions ofthe parcel (Figure 1). This wetland is part ofa historic wetland now fragrnented that is associated with Chimacum Creek. Field work by Wiltermood concluded a non-wetland determination for this parcel. The proposed project includes upgrading an existing septic system with new sepic tanks and hansmission lines and joint creating new cormections between buildings. Old septic tanks will be decommissioned and an older mobile home will be removed from the Chimacum Creek 150 foot buffer. Amanda Hunt, Jefferson County Deparhnent of Community Development, is reviewing this project application (Case SEP20-00201) and has determined that the original wetland delineation and findings are older than 5 years and therefore are no longer valid. The goal ofthis biological assessment is to review past findings and update the critical areas information according to current jurisdictional requirements. A site reconnaissance was conducted on December 14,2020. Findings All areas for the proposed septic additions and upgrades are within an area that consists of gravel filI devoid ofvegetation. Once the 1,000 gallon compartment septic tank and the 1,000 gallon pump tank with transmission lines are buried there will be no alteration of site elevation. The impacts will be temporary. Findings from the site assessment (Figure 2) indicate that the information in the Wefland Determination by Wiltermood is still accurate. Trees and shrubs planted by North Olympic Salmon Coalition (NOSC) along Chimacum Creek in 2000 have matured and are now stabilizing and shading the creek. There was some mortality but the majority of vegetation is well established and creates a dense habitat with diverse structural layers. Between NOSC plantings and the gravel fill Biological Assessment Craig Durgan Page I Olympic Wetland Resources, LLC (approximately 150') the vegetation on the parcel consists of water tolerant non-native grasses. In agreement with the Wiltermood report no wetlands were observed directly associated with Chimacum Creek. This confirms the proposed project is more than 300 feet from an existing wetland. The wetlands mapped by Wiltermood and Associates are far north of the subject parcel. If more work is required on this project feel free to contact me.
