This is for Dr Locke.
Greetings from the Wooden Boat Festival office-(virtual office)
Like everyone in Jefferson County, I have been eagerly following the progress of phases, vaccines etc - trying to imagine what this means for Wooden Boat Festival Sept 10-12th this
year.
With the latest news from Wa State that we are all moving into Phase 3 by the end of March, and President Biden saying he hopes for normal by July 4th. We are feeling very hopeful!
We dont want to get ahead of ourselves or public health. But hope is in the air and it feels
really good.
We have been making plans for all the possible scenarios,Masks still in play
Social Distancing still in play
We feel confident we can accommodate those scenarios, but hope that by September socialdistancing will be over. that has the most impact, both economically and operationally.
We need to start getting the Festival machine going - would love to do so with your blessing.
We know that we dont know what phase we will be in,We know that we dont know pretty much anything, except things are currently looking
better..... but they could get worse.
We are still willing to cautiously move forward- we feel the town needs something to lookforward to, and we would like to be that thing.
This is the Wooden boat Festivals 45th year, we feel it's important to bring back a normal
festival as much as possible. Obviously we are hoping that masks and social distancing will be gone by then, but we are
committed to doing what we can even if they are not.We would like to move ahead with planning for a normal festival, and know that we may have
to make adjustments, ......assuming we won't know what those are until July or August.
If social distancing is still in play we will have to make some big adjustments-We may not be able to have in person presentations, which is a big part of our festival, but we
will adapt as best we can.and we might have to eliminate the dances at night.
If being close and dancing is not allowed- (god help us- this is a dancing town). We will figure
that out too- I have a great LAST RESORT idea for a possible dance party spread all over the
port, with everyone having their own pod to dance in that is painted on the ground. LASTRESORT- but if we have not allowed music and dancing all Summer, we will try to do
something like this to fill that huge void in town.
I know you must have so many people in the same situation reaching out, thank you for yourtime to read and consider this.
We would love to start talking to our board, and others about this plan, and would love to be
able to say, we have your blessing, or we have ran this past you and you support us movingahead, knowing that we dont know A LOT. We dont know what restrictions will be in place,
but we will follow whatever is in place. We are ready to implement a covid safety officer, and team if needed. To keep up covid
protocols, cleanings etc.
What other information would you like from me? We of course will work hand in hand with Public health every step of the way.
Thanks much for your time. I would appreciate any advice for moving forward.
Very Best
Barb
