Dear County Officials:
Please accept this letter as my requestthatyouurge the Board of County
Commissioners to changecounty law such that commercial grow and processing
marijuana facilities areprohibited within ALL Rural Residentialzones in Jefferson
County.
The existing conditional use permit"approachplaces an unfair burdenonthe
affected neighborhood as wellasthebusiness developer.Had such a prohibition
been in place four yearsago,Marrowstone Islanders would not have beenburdened
with over 50,000 in legal expenses.Moreover,our county could have saveditself
the distraction and expenseof two overflow--crowd public hearings withuntold
wasted hoursof countystaff time.Clearly,our countyislong overdue for an outright
prohibition of commercial marijuana grow/processonrural--residential properties.
I thank youfor your efforts at resolving this issuewith our BOCC.Experience has
more than demonstrated that commercialmarijuana grow and process operations
have no place withinarural residential setting,and must thereforebeentirely
prohibited.
