SUBJECT: Appointment Guy Dobyns to serve a first 4-year term to
represent District No. 3
STATEMENT OF ISSUE:
Public Health requests that the County Commissioners appoint Guy Dobyns to the Conservation Futures
Citizen Oversight(CF)Committee to serve a first 4-year term to represent District 3.
ANALYSIS/STRATEGIC GOALS/PRO'S and CON'S:
Two vacancies on the CF Committee,to represent District 3 and an Open Interest, were advertised in the
Peninsula Daily News on March 3, 2021. Mr. Dobyns responded to the ad prior to the March 18, 2021
deadline. He was the only person to express interest in the District 3 opening. On March 19th,the program
coordinator and two committee members interviewed Mr. Dobyns by Zoom.
Mr. Dobyns moved to the Quilcene area a year ago from Olympia where he operated a social center/print
shop that closed due to Covid-19. For several years, he has guided hiking and backpacking trips for The
Wildland Trekking Company in Olympic, Cascade, and Mount Rainier National Parks. He also teaches
wilderness first aid classes for the National Outdoor Leadership School's(NOLS)Wilderness Medicine
Institute in a variety of locations. Mr. Dobyns has a passion for growing and promoting fruit and nut tree
cultivation as well as for wetland and forestland restoration.
The interview committee recommends Mr. Dobyns highly to serve a four-year term on the CF Committee
in the seat formerly occupied by Lige Christian.
FISCAL IMPACT/COST BENEFIT ANALYSIS:
There is no fiscal impact to the county's General Fund for reappointing Mr. Dobyns to a first 4-year term
on the CF Committee.
RECOMMENDATION:
Public Health requests that the County Commissioners appoint Guy Dobyns to the Conservation Futures
Citizen Oversight Committee to serve a 4-year term to represent District 3.
