PARKS TOUR SPECIAL MEETING AGENDA
April 21, 2021 from 10am to 2pm

Begin at Irondale Beach Park 562 Moore St., Port Hadlock, WA 98339
End at Gibbs Lake Park, Main Parking Lot 110 Gibbs Lake Road, Chimacum, WA 98325
Safety Plan
The tour is an outside event, we will not enter any buildings together.
Self-screen, do not attend if you are sick or have been exposed to someone who has COVID-19.
Wear an appropriate mask properly at all times when out of your vehicle.
Maintain a minimum of 6’ distance at all times.
Wash and sanitize hands frequently.
One person in vehicle only, no car-pooling.
Do not share food or water.
Eat in your car, or before or after the event. We will not have lunch together.
Vehicle safety: we will not gather in parking lots or on road sides. Be aware of moving vehicles.
Logistics
Bring food and water for yourself if you like. We will not be near a store or restaurant.
We will postpone if there is heavy rain, but continue if there is light rain or mist.
Wear sensible shoes, bring extra warm clothes and rain gear.
There are primitive toilets at Irondale Beach Park, Indian Island Portage Beach, and Gibbs Lake.
Documentation
Park evaluation sheets and clipboards will be provided at the beginning, and turned in at end.
Public Works staff will take minutes and pictures.
Tour Goals:
To become more familiar with, and increase knowledge and understanding of our parks, as well
as with the events and recreation programs that use them.
With ‘fresh eyes’, to document the current condition of the parks using photographs, input, and
email follow up.
To gather important guidance, feedback, input and advise from board members.
To help guide staff and volunteer work and priorities.
To meet staff and volunteers where possible, to encourage them in their efforts, and
understand the challenges they face.

To update the JCPRAB capital improvement plan by assessing the current condition of capital
facilities and resources, identifying new projects, looking at the status of existing projects, and
making modifications where needed.
To gather community input from members of the public met along the course of the tour.
To highlight the parks system in the local media.
To communicate the findings of the tour to the BoCC and the community.
To utilize all the above information in updating the Parks, Recreation, and Open Space
Comprehensive Plan (PROS).
To see medium and long term changes and trends in the parks:
o Trends: sea level rise and storm activity; increased park use; maintenance backlog;
major progress on forestry; progress in partnership parks – Camp Beausite NW & Indian
Island Lease with DNR;
o Irondale Beach Park – volunteer progress and challenges, ideas, sign location?
o Bridge and canal in Indian Island Park & erosion of parking lot at Lagoon Beach
o Removed toilets in East Beach, shelter repairs done and needed, how ‘low’ this site is –
potential for erosion.
o Forestry, and changes to trail plans at Gibbs Lake Park, success of Camp Beausite NW,
and plan for signs.

10:00 a.m. – Irondale Beach Park (Meet in the grass area near the park sign, at 562 Moore St.,
Port Hadlock)
11:00 a.m. – Indian Island Park (Meet at Portage Beach near the Lions Club Picnic Shelter, 3456
Flagler Road, Port Hadlock)
12:00 p.m. – East Beach Park (Meet in the grass area near the shelter, 330 East Beach Road,
Nordland)
1:00 p.m. – Silent Alder Area of Gibbs Lake Park, (Meet Camp Beausite Northwest, park in the
main camp parking lot, 510 Beausite Lake Road, Port Hadlock)
1:45 – Closing discussion/debrief
