To Whom It May Concern:
As a grandparent of 2 grandsons, a middle schooler and a high schooler attending PTschools and as a retired WA state teacher, I encourage you to fully open all Port Townsend
schools in September 2021. It has clearly been a difficult year for all of us, but particularly forstudents, their parents, and teachers. My observations of my grandsons, students in my
immediate school district (Mead of Spokane), and information on the national level point tothe detrimental effects of the social isolation students have experienced, the inadequate
academic progress for many students, and the relational breakdown between students andteachers and students to students, all occurring in this year of COVID. There are current
examples of highly effective accommodations made by school districts throughout the countryin efforts to keep the learning in-person. And, if a large district like Mead can, from
September 2020 to the present, have in-person school for a majority of their students, PortTownsend certainly should be able to. I urge you to make the decision to full operation of all
your schools in September 2021. Thank you for your consideration.
