DRAFT MINUTES
The April 21st, 2021 meeting of the Empowered Teens Coalition was held at the Zoom meeting
3:30 – 4:30
PURPOSE OF THE MEETING: Reports: community update and news; Going forward: action
planning and budget 2021-2022.
Facilitators for this meeting: Denise Banker
In attendance: David Engle (Education), Lindsay Scalf (Other Substance Abuse coalition), Joe
Nole (Law Enforcement), Chris HoffmanHill (Civic), Mark Gudger (Education), Ciela Meyer
(Mental Health), Greg Brotherton (Government), Cheryl Weinstein (Business), Alexis S. (HCA
Fellow), Angela (HCA Fellow Clallam)
Time/Facilitator Activity
3:30 Denise Called meeting to order. Approve Agenda: David, Greg, all; Minutes:
Greg, Joe, all.
3:35 All Check in and Update: School district report: still looking for SAP.
Increased pay scale. Rene from Kingston is helping in school one-day
per week; Character Strong: using a lesson strategy to begin each staff
meeting and modeling for teachers how to integrate; Looking for person
who might teach woodshop at the school. Reaching out to Wooden Boat
school, and Port Townsend School of Wood Working.
4:00 All ACTION:
~Will school staff be able to use remaining Character Strong budget?
NO. Mark suggested using it for ASB Leadership Training for Stephanie
Tell and himself. Will contact Denise outside this meeting to further
discuss adding this to 2021-2022 Action Plan.
~Reported on arranging ad hoc meeting to discuss MCS counseling and
extra day in school.
~Met with Shayann: Coalition and Teen Center rental and EB program
offered through teen center, will add to Action Plan.
~Will continue with Drug Take Backs and GGC in Action Plan
~Mark will reach out to Tony re. Life Skills in Health Class.
~May, June will be planning meetings for next year’s Action Plan, 2021-
2022.
~Will go forward with Communications Plan approval. (Focus groups to
consider purpose, message, method.

~Student ambassadors: paid ambassadors to promote and increase
participation in coalition activities and prevention club.
~Our next meeting will be Wednesday, May 19th via Zoom.
4:30 Denise Meeting ended at 4:30.
The May 19th, 2021 meeting of the Empowered Teens Coalition will be held at the Via Zoom
from 3:30-4:30, unless otherwise notified.
ALCOHOL AND OTHER DRUG PREVENTION IS GOOD WORK.
