SUMMARY:
Oversees the maintenance of all County parks, campgrounds, and facilities grounds to ensure adequate
customer service and safety for users by performing the following duties. Receives general supervision
and direction from Parks & Recreation Manager.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be
assigned.
Coordinates maintenance activities of lower level Parks Maintenance staff, camp hosts, caretakers and
volunteers, including scheduling and executing planned maintenance at County facilities, campgrounds
and parks.
Manages minor park maintenance, development and/or improvement projects. Prioritizes activities and
coordinates materials, staffing and equipment.
Participates in short and long range planning with higher level Parks & Recreation and Public Works
staff and the Parks Advisory Board. Assists in the development of standards for County facilities and
parks maintenance.
Prepares cost estimates and budgets on projects or assignments as requested. Monitors expenditures to
ensure they are within the annual budget. Accountable for specific project steps. Participates in team
process to assist in developing the division budget for the Department.
Schedules safety training for staff.
Park Maintenance III
Performs repairs and maintenance activities in County parks and campgrounds on amenities, property
and facilities. Performs maintenance on the grounds of various County facilities including roads, trails,
buildings and athletic fields.
Inspects and evaluates playgrounds and playground safety conditions, ensures playground maintenance

and repair, maintains documentation.
Operates athletic field maintenance equipment, mowers, striping machine, weed eaters, chainsaw,
tractor, loader and other small tools and equipment and hand tools.
Performs grounds maintenance duties such as watering lawns, mowing, weeding, raking, sweeping,
clearing brush, picking up trash, pruning and landscape tasks.
Performs tasks involving athletic field maintenance and preparation such as lining and marking fields,
placing barrier ropes, moving bleachers, top dressing, mowing, fertilizing, repairing and
troubleshooting irrigation systems, putting in bases, setting up soccer goals, football goal posts and all
other equipment necessary for field participants.
Performs maintenance tasks such as painting, light carpentry, repairing playgrounds, mending fences,
and installing park furniture.
Performs general custodial work of cleaning bathrooms and outhouses, sweeping and mopping floors,
cleaning trash containers and other duties associated with cleanliness of facilities.
Opens, monitors and closes facilities and campgrounds practicing safety and security measures as
assigned. Collects campground fees.
Inspects and evaluates work areas, identifies needs, develops plan and implements the work. Prioritizes
schedule, budget and duties to best complete the assigned tasks.
Provides information, guidance and support to various customers including park users, athletic field
users, coaches, volunteers, campground visitors, and facility event organizers for example.
Trains, plans, assigns and directs activities of casual labor, camp hosts, caretakers and seasonal
workers as well as Community Service workers as assigned.
Participates in self -directed team process to set work level expectations, goals and objectives.
Participates in annual training program and annual performance evaluation process.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This job has no supervisory responsibilities, but is a "lead" position in the division of assignment. Lead
responsibilities include assisting the Department Head and/or Supervisor with interviewing, training,
planning, assigning and directing work. Lead positions also provide input for performance appraisals
and assist in addressing complaints and resolving problems.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to
perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); with six (6) years as a Parks
Maintenance Worker I, II, III position; or eight (8) years related experience and/or
training in parks and/or facilities maintenance in positions with progressive
responsibility, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance
instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and
correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees
of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole
numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent
and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in
written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete
variables in standardized situations.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of database
software; internet software; spreadsheet software and word processing software.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Current, valid Washington State Driver's License.
Possession of, or ability to obtain a basic First Aid Card and CPR Certification.
Possession of, or ability to obtain a WSDL Playground Inspector certification within six months of
hire.
Successfully complete Jefferson County Cash Handler training within one year of hire.
OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Skilled with the use and maintenance of hand and power tools, equipment and techniques commonly
used in performing maintenance related tasks.
Ability to stay abreast of current trends, issues, practices, etc., in the parks maintenance field including

development of new equipment and practices that improve the operations.
Independent and self -motivated to complete required deadlines while simultaneously completing other
tasks.
Ability to successfully complete various required training classes and obtain certificates necessary for
functional skills performance, maintenance and improvement.
Knowledge of facilities electrical, plumbing and mechanical systems, custodial functions and
carpentry.
Knowledge of athletic field maintenance and repair.
Knowledge of irrigation practices, irrigation system repair, and monitoring.
Knowledge of landscape maintenance, techniques, methods, and equipment needed in performance of
duties.
Ability to quickly grasp new techniques, deal with rapid changes in events, remain calm in stressful
situations, relate to various personality styles in a calm, professional manner.
Working knowledge of county policies, procedures and safety practices as it relates to duties..
Good physical condition and the ability to work in a variety of weather conditions.
Familiarity with tools, instruments, equipment and techniques commonly used in the performance of
field maintenance, landscaping and irrigation.
Effective collaborative skills for working with internal and external customers in respect to
organizational requirements.
Ability to work on Saturday and/or Sunday.
Ability to train and provide guidance to parks Maintenance I, II and III level employees and
volunteers.
