SUMMARY: Performs maintenance of County parks and County facilities and grounds to insure
adequate customer service and safety for users by performing the following duties. Receives general
supervision and direction from Parks & Recreation Manager. May receive direction and guidance from
Parks Maintenance III and Lead.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be
assigned.
Performs repairs and maintenance in County parks and on park amenities, and maintenance on the
grounds of various County facilities including roads, trails, buildings and athletic fields.
Operates athletic field maintenance equipment, mowers, striping machine, weed eater, chainsaw,
tractor, loader and other small tools and equipment and hand tools.
Performs grounds maintenance duties such as watering lawns, mowing, weeding, raking, sweeping,
clearing brush, picking up trash, pruning and landscape tasks.
Performs tasks involving athletic field maintenance and preparation such as lining and marking fields,
placing barrier ropes, moving bleachers, top dressing, mowing, fertilizing, repairing and
troubleshooting irrigation systems, putting in bases, setting up soccer goals, football goal posts and all
other equipment necessary for field participants.
Performs and assists with maintenance tasks such as painting, light carpentry, repairing playgrounds,
mending fences, and installing park furniture.
Performs general custodial work of cleaning bathrooms and outhouses, sweeping and mopping floors,
cleaning trash containers and other duties associated with cleanliness of facilities.
Depending on work scheduled, may open, monitor and close facilities and campgrounds practicing
safety and security measures as assigned. Collects campground fees.
Observes and inspects park and facility areas, identifies needs, develops plan and implements the

work. Prioritizes the times and duties to best complete the assigned tasks.
Provides information, guidance and support to various customers including park users, athletic field
users, coaches, volunteers, campground visitors, and facility event organizers.
Trains, plans, assigns and directs activities of casual labor and seasonal workers as well as Community
Service workers as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to
perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) with two (2) years as a Parks
Maintenance I and two (2) years related experience and/or training in parks and/or
facilities maintenance; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance
instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and
correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees
of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole
numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent
and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in
written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete
variables in standardized situations.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of database
software; internet software; spreadsheet software and word processing software.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid Washington State Driver's License.
Possession of, or ability to obtain a basic First Aid Card and CPR Certification.
Successfully complete Jefferson County Cash Handler training within one year of hire.

OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SHILLS AND ABILITIES:
Familiarity with hand and power tools, equipment and techniques commonly used in performing
maintenance and related tasks.
Ability to stay abreast of current trends, issues, practices, etc., in the Parks Maintenance field.
Knowledge of irrigation practices, irrigation system repair, and monitoring.
Knowledge of landscape maintenance, techniques, methods, and equipment needed in performance of
duties.
Knowledge of athletic field maintenance and repair.
Ability to quickly grasp new techniques, deal with rapid changes in events, remain calm in stressful
situations, relate to various personality styles in a calm, professional manner.
Working knowledge of county and department policies, procedures and safety practices as it relates to
duties.
Good physical condition and the ability to work in a variety of weather conditions.
Familiarity with tools, instruments, equipment and techniques commonly uses in the performance of
field maintenance, landscaping and irrigation.
Effective collaborative skills for working with internal and external customers in respect to
organizational requirements.
Ability to work on Saturday and/or Sunday.
Ability to train and provide guidance to parks Maintenance I and other Parks Maintenance II level
employees.
