Share air time and encourage all members to participate DRAFT MINUTES The May 19th, 2021 meeting of the Empowered Teens Coalition was held at the Zoom meeting 3:30 – 4:30 PURPOSE OF THE MEETING: Reports: community update and news; Going forward: action planning and budget 2021-2022. Facilitators for this meeting: Denise Banker In attendance: David Engle (Education), Lindsay Scalf (Other Substance Abuse coalition), Joe Nole (Law Enforcement), Chris HoffmanHill (Civic), Mark Gudger (Education), Ciela Meyer (Mental Health), Greg Brotherton (Government), Cheryl Weinstein (Business), Alexis S. (HCA Fellow), Tanya Barnett (Youth Serving Organization), Stephanie Tell (School, Mental Health), Richard Davies (Law), Julie Cantebury (Mental Health) Time/Facilitator Activity 3:30 Denise Called meeting to order. Approve Agenda: Cheryl, Greg, all; Minutes: Greg, Ciela, all. 3:35 All Check in and Update: School district report: Interviewing for SAP. Character Strong testimonial. Increased pay scale. Mark and Stephanie took ASB Leadership training; Ciela: Working on relationship building between school district and DBH re. mental health services; Sheriff’s department applying for another navigator grant to maintain services established under first round of funding; MCS is submitting 1/10 of 1% RFA to continue counseling in schools, is in talks with PT for fulltime position for counselor, is building capacity for district level financing of counseling supports; School Board review of student discipline policy which includes social emotional school climate statement. 4:00 All ACTION: ~Mark suggested we use remaining 2020-2021 SABG funds to buy Leadership Curriculum for advisory time. Will contact Denise outside meeting time. ~Julie and Denise met to finalize MCS counseling and extra day in school plan. MCS will integrate Positive Action in the counseling sessions and we will train counselors. Will add to Action Plan ~Denise looks at Teen Center space with Shayann and will discuss EB program offered through teen center, will add to Action Plan. ~Julie will send cost estimates for budgeting purposes. Life Skills in Science Class. ~June will be planning meetings for next year’s Budget, 2021-2022. ~Communications will be added to Action Plan. (Focus groups to consider purpose, message, method. ~We used the rest of the Character Strong budget to support Safe and Sober Graduation Activity. Will add this to Action Plan ~Will add Mental Health First Aid for teens and adults to Action Plan. MCS will facilitate. (will supply cost estimate). ~Will look for grant opportunity to apply for re. MHPP ~Applied for CPWI community in Quilcene ~Our next meeting will be Wednesday, May 19th via Zoom. 4:30 Denise Meeting ended at 4:22. The June 16th, 2021 meeting of the Empowered Teens Coalition will be held at the Via Zoom from 3:30-4:30, unless otherwise notified. ALCOHOL AND OTHER DRUG PREVENTION IS GOOD WORK.
