STATEMENT OF ISSUE:
The Jefferson County Commissioners will consider the PROCLAMATION re: Proclaiming June 2021 as
Cashier and customer Service month
RECOMMENDATION:
Approve Proclamation re: Proclaiming June 2021 as Cashier and Customer Service Month

PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, the coronavirus pandemic has been a clear display of the disparity in social
determinants of health, has affected the labor class disproportionally due to lack of access to
affordable health care, appropriate sick leave, and job flexibility; and,
WHEREAS, cashiers and customer service employees, though amongst the lowest paid employees
in our society continue to work on the front lines of this global coronavirus pandemic; and,
WHEREAS, a positive customer service experience elevates a satisfactory consumer experience to
an exceptional one; and,
WHEREAS, throughout history, customer service personnel have been essential jobs across all
sectors, from governmental organizations, to small and large businesses, to non-profits; and,
WHEREAS,just as in previous disease outbreaks, cashiers have continued to come to work to serve
the public while putting themselves at risk; and,
WHEREAS, cashiers and customer service personnel often have no labor representation, and are
represented by our most vulnerable citizens; and,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT, the Jefferson County Commissioners do
hereby proclaim June 2021 as:
CASHIER AND CUSTOMER SERVICE MONTH
in Jefferson County and ask all residents of this community join us in honoring our
COURAGEOUS CASHIERS AND CUSTOMER SERVICE WORKERS who are essential
workers in our community and improve our shopping experiences, and show our appreciation not
just during this month, but at every opportunity throughout the year.
