SUBJECT: PROCLAMATION re: Declaring the Month of June, 2021 as Pride Month
STATEMENT OF ISSUE:
The Board will consider approval of the proclamation declaring the Month of June as Pride Month.
FISCAL IMPACT
There is no fiscal impact to Jefferson County.
RECOMMENDATION:
Approve Proclamation re: Proclaiming the month of June, 2021 as Pride Month.

PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS,Jefferson County, Washington recognizes that sexual and gender identity are fluid and
non-binary concepts that all people are free to explore without discrimination; and
WHEREAS, our Nation continues to face tragic levels of violence against transgender people,
especially transgender youth and women of color; and
WHEREAS, LGBTQ+ individuals-especially youth who defy sex or gender norms- face bullying and
harassment in educational settings and are at a disproportionate risk of self-harm and death by suicide; and
WHEREAS, in its efforts to be safe, diverse and inclusive, Jefferson County actively seeks to
implement policy that is fair and protects the rights and dignity of all; and
WHEREAS, we celebrate and honor the contributions the LGBTQ+community makes to the fabric,
stability and well-being of our community; and
WHERAS,the Jefferson County Board of County Commissioners passed a Human Rights
Proclamation on February 6, 2017 declaring our commitment to protecting the inalienable human rights,
dignity and equality of all individuals, regardless of age, race, national origin, immigration and citizenship
status, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, religion, creed or ability; and
Now, Therefore,the Jefferson County Board of County Commissioners does hereby proclaim June
2021 to be
Pride Month
In Jefferson County, and encourage all residents and visitors to join with people and organizations around the
world in celebrating the spirit of the vibrant LGBTQ+community and to renew our commitment to ensuring
civil rights for all.
