Peggy,
You are absolutely correct—waiting 7 months for a road naming that, in an ideal world should take 60 days, is
unreasonable.
I would suggest addressing the matter with the Board of County Commissioners. I suppose I should be more political
here, but the truth of the matter is that we are running at over 150% of capacity and are so short-staffed that it is
impossible to get my own tasks done in a timely manner, despite the fact that my road naming timeline is codified. I
desperately wish things were different (especially because it is me who has egg on her face over the matter). Talking
with the Commissioners is best because my direct supervisor is just as swamped, if not more, than I am and HER direct
supervisor is no longer working here as of tomorrow…and the Director’s interim replacement will be leaving at the end
of May…which leaves my direct supervisor even more swamped trying to bear the brunt of short staff, short
management and future staff and management onboarding and training.
That said, we did receive word this week that we are getting more funding for more staff, but it takes time to train them.
In fact, part of what is taking up so much of my time is the training of recently hired staff, so the timeline on your project
should move along faster than it has in the past (and is the reason I was able to again focus on your particular case).
I sincerely wish I had more to offer. I can promise that I will move your case along as fast as I can, but there are waiting
periods and such built into the timeline that I can’t always shorten once the process gets moving.
Thank you so very much for your patience and understanding.
Sincerely,
Nicole Allen

Hi Nicole,
Just for the public record, I wanted to state that we applied and paid for a building permit on November 24, 2020. At
the same time, we applied for an address. Almost two months later, on January 15, 2021, we received our building
permit. Then, over a month later, on February 23, 2021, I received an email from you stating that you were assigned to
the “addressing case.” Despite numerous emails to you, I did not hear back from you until April 7 th at which time you
said we needed to petition for a street name. Within 12 hours, I submitted the petition, along with all of the requested
documentation. In reading the “brochure” sent along with the petition, it says that it takes a minimum of nine weeks to
process the street name petition. Nine weeks from today (the day I submitted the petition) would be June 9 th,
approximately 7 months after our original application for an address. I don’t think anyone would think that is
reasonable. Who can I talk to move this matter along?

Hi Nicole,
Attached is the Road Name Petition, a description of the road, and a vicinity map. I have already paid the additional
fees. Let me know what I need to do next to keep this process moving forward. Thanks again for all your help!

Peggy Ann,

Sorry it’s taken so long to get back to you. I’m working late so that I can move this case forward for you. 😊
For better or for worse, the fire department deferred the decision back to us, but said that they would support any
decision we make.
While I understand that this will be an unpopular decision, after reviewing your request, we have decided to deny the
request for a variant to the road naming process. Below are the links for the road naming forms and I’ve attached an
invoice for the difference between the cost of the road naming and addressing. As your addressing application was
submitted in 2020, I have invoiced you at the 2020 prices. Because you’ve already paid $302.40 for the address, that fee
can be applied to the road naming process, which would leave a balance of $126 ($428.40 for the road naming fee
minus $302.40 for the address fee already paid). This fee, of course, could be split between the remaining neighbors.
All neighbors that already have an address will get re-addressed at no cost and all neighbors that would like to be
addressed at this time are offered a significant discount for doing so during the road naming process, at $115. Again,
these are all costs that can be shared, and neighbors are generally very willing to work together during this process.
Speaking of neighbors, I always encourage petitioners to work together with neighbors not only on the fees, but also on
the names.
When we receive payment for the invoice I will proceed with the road naming process.
The forms below will assist you in the road naming process:

Sounds good. Which access is the one you are going to use the most often? If the fire dept had to come to your “new”
house today how would you direct them to get there?
I tried calling your fire chief this morning and just missed him. I’ll try again later. 😊

Hi Nicole,
This is an accurate depiction of the access to 702 151 001, keeping in mind that we own 702 140 003. Not to complicate
things unnecessarily, but I thought I should let you know that we also have an access easement to 702 151 001 through
702 142 001 which enters at the southern end of the parcel. You can kind of see the road going up to the building site
on this aerial map. Let me know what I need to do next. Thanks for all your help.

Hi Nicole,
Thanks for your help on this addressing issue. First, please update my email address. It’s now
peggyannbierbaum@outlook.com. Second, the diagram you sent does not accurately depict the access to the “new”
house. I have attached a pdf file which shows the road from our driveway to the “new” house. Feel free to call me if
you have any questions.

Peggy Ann,
Hello! My name is Nicole Allen and I have been assigned to your addressing case. I’m jumping in mid-stream here so I
wanted to confirm that I’ve properly noted the driveway off of Wildwood to your house. May you please confirm if I’ve
drawn in correctly? This will help me in my conversation with your fire department regarding a variance.

Nicole,
After driving up to The Bierbaum property, this is where we think the fire signage should be placed to ensure access to
the both home sites.
The current residence has a fire number of 787 shown on photo “Bierbuam 2”. Lat / Long is N47 50.435 by W122
54.104. At this location a second fire number for the new residence (783) needs to be added.
At “Bierbuam 1” (Lat / Long N 47 50.341 by W 122 54.523)at a sign the says “Job Site” where the road splits, up hill to
the Bierbuam residence and downhill to “new residence” or “job site”. On the uphill branch a “787” fire number, on the
downhill to the “Job Site” a “783” fire number right at need the tree with the current sing on it. The road is well
maintained, no brush or over hanging tree limbs. The lower “original” sign appears to well maintained. So with the
additions to the current signage, I don’t see a problem finding either properties.
If you have any questions or need additional information from QFR, please give Chief McKern or myself a call or
email. Thanks for your help with this project. Don Svetich.
