HomeMy WebLinkAboutDossiHTFCommentFrom:Moira Dossi To:Housing Taskforce Subject:Proposed Cape George Road homeless camp Date:Tuesday, June 8, 2021 9:33:09 PM CAUTION: This email originated from outside your organization. Exercise caution when opening attachments or clicking links, especially from unknown senders. It is my sincere hope that the proposal for a homeless camp on Cape George Road will be rejected. There is no public transportation, no services, and no oversight. It appears the Port Townsend police currently spend an inordinate amount of time at the fairgrounds. Would there be a sheriff stationed at the homeless camp? Currently there is no infrastructure - no water, no sewer, no structures, no bathrooms. Can’t we do better then a spot in the woods for tents. How will waste be handled? This will create a nuisance for anyone using the parking lot for the Larry Scott trail or the trail itself. As a women who uses the LST alone this decision would put me at greater risk since the trail would be the defacto connection from the camp to town. I lived in a community that built a fenced, monitored “temporary” homeless encampment 5 years ago. It was a stopgap measure that was supposed to last 6 months. It’s still a homeless encampment. And with it the accompanying trash, syringes with needles, crack pipes, feces, vermin etc. Fires were constantly being extinguished by fire crews and this was in an urban, paved area. Fires in the proposed setting could be disastrous. I do not believe all the “stakeholders” were included in this proposal. That would have had to include neighbors on Cape George Road, users of the Larry Scott Trail and the Cape George Colony, Highlands and Village. Thank you Moira Dossi
