HomeMy WebLinkAboutMcKayHTFCommentFrom:Sue McKay To:Housing Taskforce Subject:Proposed Homeless Encampment on Cape George Road Date:Wednesday, June 9, 2021 12:35:12 PM CAUTION: This email originated from outside your organization. Exercise caution when opening attachments or clicking links, especially from unknown senders. To the Homeless Task Force, You are moving way too fast. The committee may have had time to study this plan but you must allow more time for the local community to be involved. I would be more inclined to support the encampment if I had a better understanding of the plan and how services and support will provided. A Zoom or in person workshop for the public and time for public comment is essential before any final decision is made. By rushing to make a decision leaves several me with several impressions— 1. It doesn’t sound like this is a well thought out plan. Instead, it seems like a quick “solution” to move the encampment out of Port Townsend. No one has adequately answered how sanitation, transportation, health and social services, and supervision will be provided. 2. The committee knew that this would be a controversial proposal. By pushing the proposal through without adequate public education and opportunity for public comment, the message that you sending me is that the thoughts and questions of the residents of the Cape George Road of do not matter. Maybe you thought that you could hide the encampment and no one would notice it. Again, show me that I am wrong by provide the public with additional information. I acknowledge that this is a complex problem that communities across the country are trying to solve. I strongly support the need to help our homeless population and I want to be supportive of the Cape George encampment. To do that, I need more information and a chance to ask questions and provide input. Respectfully submitted, Susan McKay Resident of Cape George Colony Sent from Mail for Windows 10
