DRAFT MINUTES
The June 16th, 2021 meeting of the Empowered Teens Coalition was held at the Zoom meeting 3:30 – 4:30 PURPOSE OF THE MEETING: Reports: community update and news; Going forward: action planning and budget 2021-2022. Facilitators for this meeting: Denise Banker In attendance: Mark Gudger (Education), Lindsay Scalf (Other Substance Abuse coalition), Joe Nole (Law Enforcement), Chris HoffmanHill (Civic), Stephanie Tell and Melinda Miller (Education), Ciela Meyer (Mental Health), Greg Brotherton (Government), Cheryl Weinstein (Dove House, Business), Alexis S. (HCA Fellow), Autumn Nolan, Emily Abell (OlyCAP, Youth Serving Agency), Dana Milagrosa, Donnette Boyett (Discovery Behavioral Health, Mental Health), Julie Cantebury (Schools, Mental Health), Margaret Rodriquez-Yesberger (WISE Program Peer-Counselor, Youth), Josh Fey (Law Enforcement, PA)
Time/Facilitator Activity 3:30 Denise Called meeting to order. Approve Agenda: Cheryl, Greg, all; Minutes: Greg, Joe, all. 3:35 All Check in and Update: New members introduced themselves; School district report: Mark reported on Character Strong and Servant
Leadership component, was promoted to Vice-principal, hired SAP; Denise and Lindsay reported on achieving Quilcene Cohort 7 Extension funding; Denise reported we won’t be able to fund anymore Character
Strong until we can prove it’s evidence-based to reduce substance misuse; Denise explained budget as it relates to MCS and Teen Mental Health First Aid in all districts; Denise offered consideration re. NFP in 2022-23 budget re. unused allocations; Cheryl reported on upcoming event for teens at Recovery Café: Food and Art (will send flyer); Library investigating digital equity navigator to improve digital norms and literacy; MCS hosting Adult Mental Health First Aid in PT schools in August; School Board passed social emotional school climate statement; Denise discussed CHIP and Dr. David Carlbom’s visit to Jefferson Education Partnership meeting. (Dr. Carlbom is an emergency medicine physician at Harborview and is regional medical consult/supervisor for
EJFR –East Jefferson Fire and Rescue)

~Greg, Chris, and Denise will meet to discuss evidence-based programing that may support Digital Literacy Navigator.
~Ciela, Dana, Donnette, Denise, Julie will meet to discuss Teen Mental Health First Aid, Mental Health First Aid, and other suicide prevention programs available and how to go forward with search for funding and
implementation in all school districts. ~Greg, Lindsay, Joe, and Denise will submit request to be on the Jefferson Education Partnership Agenda in September to present the Quilcene Coalition and CPWI as well as logic guiding coalition inclusion at school district decision-making / discussion tables regarding behavioral health curriculums. ~Mark will reach out to Science teacher re. Life Skills in Science Class. ~Communications will be added to Action Plan. Denise will reach out to Isaac re. approval. ~Our next meeting will be Wednesday, September 15th via Zoom. 4:30 Denise Meeting ended at 4:27.
The June 16th, 2021 meeting of the Empowered Teens Coalition will be held at the Via Zoom from 3:30-4:30, unless otherwise notified. ALCOHOL AND OTHER DRUG PREVENTION IS GOOD WORK.
