Box 1786 Port Townsend, WA 98368 360-344-8385 simon@studio-stl.com REVISION #1 TRANSMITTAL DATE: 07-08-2020 BUILDING PERMIT: BLD21-00362 OWNER: John & Terri Zagula SITE ADDRESS: 1220 Beckett Point Road, Port Townsend, WA 98368 PARCEL #: 932200701 This revision is to permit drawings submitted on 06/17/2020 for permit BLD21-00362. Responses below address items in an email from Phil Cecere on 07/07/2021. 1. The Zagula Residence should be considered a Medium Dwelling Unit, not a Small Dwelling Unit, in regards to the WAEC requiring 6 credits. The proposed strategy has 6.5 credits. The 300 SF of fenestration area is not a threshold for Medium Dwellings. This miscommunication occurred by circling the wrong size dwelling unit. 2. Renewable energy credits are achieved via a solar array on the roof. This array appears on sheet A2.3. Attached to this transmittal is the solar proposal and panel cutsheets for this residence from Cascadia Solar. To achieve all three renewable energy credits, 3600 kWh are needed. The solar array provided is projected to achieve 8,301 kWh / year according to Cascadia Solar energy modeling. 3. The selection for the heat pump / air-to-refrigerant heat exchanger is intended to meet the criteria outlined in the WAEC Option 5.6 for water heating. This heat pump has a UEF of 3.75, exceeding the minimum UEF 2.9. See attached cutsheets. a. This heat pump is also being used for radiant floor heating which satisfies the fuel normalization (heating option 2) heat pump selection. 4. The Floor Plan- Main Level A-2.1 has been revised to show propane located 10’-0” from sources of ignition and a 5’-0” clear distance to operable window (04). 5. Window (13) has been revised to be a full casement window for egress. Documents Included in Transmittal: 1. Slip sheets to the drawing set a. Floor Plan-Main Level, A-2.1 b. Exterior Elevations A3.1 c. Schedules A7.0 2. Solar proposal and cutsheets for solar panels from Cascadia Solar 3. Cutsheet for heat pump / air-to-water heat exchanger Heat Pump Water Heater Hot water,naturally.4 The SANCO² unit has the highest UFHR (Uniform First Hour Rating) of any comparably sized Storage Electric or Heat Pump Water Heater. The Natural Refrigerant (CO²) used by the SANCO2 allows it to make and store hotter water than any other Heat Pump Water Heater. This means there is more energy stored in the tank which translates into more hot water delivered via the factory supplied Mixing Valve. High Performance The SANCO² unit works to maximize the UEF value not only in the test lab, but also in real world operation due to several of its unique features: Energy Efficiency • The SANCO² Water Heater works like any other storage water heater with one exception. The tank is stratified rather than mixed. • Cold Water connections are located at the bottom of the tank and Hot Water connections are at the top. • The Hot Water stored in the tank is hotter than Mixing Valve for normal use in the home or building. The unit is supplied with a Thermostatic Mixing Valve that must be installed to temper the delivered water to fixtures. Technology – How It Works Superior Features Highest First Hour Rating of any residential electric water heater (Resistance and Heat Pumps) provides more hot water. Faster recovery from a hot water draw at 20+ GPH of 150°F water to the top of the tank. Highest real world efficiency: 80% savings over electric resistance water heaters and 40%+ over a hybrid HPWH. Most environmentally friendly water heater on the market: CO2 refrigerant has a low global warming potential. Heat pump will make hot water below -25°F to 104°F ambient temperature. Perfect for homes with Solar PV Panels as the unit will use less than 2,000 Watts maximum. Simple installation: only plumbing connections are required to connect storage tank and heat pump. Longest and most comprehensive warranty on the market. Inverter Compressor Inverter Compressors increase the efficiency of a heat pump by varying the speed of the compressor and hence the amount of electrical energy used. DC Fan Motor & Water Pump The other motors in the SANCO², the fan and water pump, are also powered by direct current (DC), just like the Inverter Compressor. This allows both to run at a speed based on load requirements to optimize energy efficiency. 2 to 4 people 5+ people 43 Gallon Tank 69-Gallon first hour delivery 83 Gallon Tank 115-Gallon first hour delivery As a highly energy-efficient alternative to the traditional electric or gas water heater, our unique system saves money, reduces greenhouse gas emissions and eliminates the production of carbon monoxide. The SANCO² heat pump water heater system consists of two parts. The heat pump unit, where the hot water is produced, using the CO2 refrigerant to extract heat from the ambient air, and the 43, 83 and 119 gallon storage tank.
