HomeMy WebLinkAbout0253/27/2012 Re: Proposed changes to PHM Mr. Johnson, My name is Mitch Bogrand and I am a slip owner at Pleasant Harbor Marina in Brinnon. I am writing you to express my frustration over proposed changes that the Statesman Group is putting forward. In my opinion the changes, if made, will not only make our use of the marina more difficult, dangerous and expensive, it will have a potentially negative impact on my investment I have made in the slip. We have been represented by the PHM Advisory Committee in the changes that have taken place and are proposed since the Statesman Group has been involved in the marina. Let me first say that I have absolutely no problem with what has been proposed with regards to the golf course and associated condominium project. As a matter of fact, I think it would be good for the area if that is what they want to do. It is only when their proposals negatively impact my investment and usage of the marina that I have a problem. We attended a meeting on March 24, 2012 for the Advisory Committee to update the slip owners and tenants to what has been taking place in the meetings they have been having with the Statesman Group. It was then that we learned that Statesman is proposing reconfiguring the roads in the marina. For reasons that Statesman cannot or would not explain they are proposing closing the road along the water and eliminating most of the parking. We will go from 77 full term parking spots to 23 "short term" parking spots, limited to one hour. Their remedy for this is to provide parking at their new resort which is approximately 1/3 mile away and uphill. They have said a shuttle will be available during normal business hours and after hours there would be a fee for that service. There is no guarantee that this shuttle service will continue in the future. If it is deemed too expensive it could be eliminated. The parking is only for the day or a weekend. Any longer parking would incur a fee. Most of our use of our boat is for longer that a couple of days. We also provision our boat from the ramp so this would be made much more difficult under their proposal. When I first heard of their proposal to eliminate the parking I assumed it had something to do with a requirement by the State or the County and its proximity to the salt water. Our Advisory Committee has said that this is not the case at all. That makes us wonder why the Statesman Group would not only want to make these unnecessary changes but in the process anger all the marina tenants AND inconvenience all the visitors and users of the marina. It is ironic that they want to close the lower road but it is a requirement to keep and maintain it for emergency vehicles. I hope that Jefferson County can influence the decision on these proposed changes. I purchased my slip, G-14, in March of 2009 for $120,000.00. 1 have never been to a marina where you need to take a shuttle to go somewhere. This will lower my slip value if I wish to resell it. I hope you keep my investment in mind when deciding on these, in my opinion, foolishly proposed changes by the Statesman Group at Pleasant Harbor Marina. Thank you, Mitch Bogrand MY Kingfisher
