Dear Mr. Johnson:
I am writing to ask that you examine thoroughly all the facts behind the recent
proposal from Statesman Corp. relative to Pleasant Harbor Marina (PHM). I
believe that a thorough examination will show clearly that some of the changes
proposed by Statesman will work to the detriment of the marina to an extent that
could jeopardize the future of the business. South Jefferson County does not
need another failed business venture.
One specific issue I take exception to is Statesman's proposed change to parking
and traffic control at the marina. While it is obvious that an expanded facility will
require that these issues be dealt with, Statesman's proposed solution overlooks
one key point.
The resulting configuration will inconvenience boaters significantly, and
negatively impact an occupancy rate that is already extremely low. At a time
when the marina needs to attract water -borne customers, not drive them away,
the proposed changes could have a severely adverse, irreversible effect on the
health of the facility.
As a PHM slip owner my concerns with this issue are two -fold. Not only do I
personally seek a comfortable, convenient boating situation, but I have a strong
desire for a healthy, thriving marina facility.
Certainly, Statesman Corp. has the same desire for a healthy marina facility as I.
I do believe, however, that they have grossly underestimated the correlation
between boater convenience and the long-term health of the facility. For this
reason, I am asking that you reject the Statesman proposal and return it to them
for their reevaluation.
Sincerely,
John S. Neal
