Re: Pleasant Harbor Marina Parking Plan
Dear David Johnson,
As current slip -owners of A-28, at Pleasant Harbor Marina, this letter is being written to
express our concern about the present parking and dock access plan proposed by
Statesmen that would eliminate on-site parking at the Marina.
With our backgrounds of 30 years boating in the Puget Sound area, 45 years in
construction management and 9 years slip -owners, it is our hope that the following
observations and suggestions will be considered when reviewing the development plans
for Pleasant Harbor Marina:
1) There are by -code parking requirements for Marinas in general. Parking one-
third mile away ( as proposed by Statesmen ) is not acceptable.
2) Having visited numerous marinas throughout our boating experience, we can
not recall any marina that has not provided reasonable parking and drive -up
access to the dock ramps for loading and unloading purposes. Again one-third
mile away is not acceptable.
3) There are presently seventy-seven (77) car parking spaces at Pleasant Harbor
Marina. This number could easily be increased to one -hundred (100) which
would provide adequate on-site parking ninety-five percent (95%) of the time.
4) Along with approximately one -hundred (100) other slip -owners, we all
have made a substantial investment in Pleasant Harbor Marina prior to
Statesmen's purchase. Understandably, we are all very concerned about the
value and marketability of Pleasant Harbor slips without on-site parking and
dock access. Boats are "homes" to a lot of us. Who would purchase a home
with a garage one-third mile away? We wouldn't!
5) At the time we purchased our slip, on-site parking was a major consideration.
Slip -owners were provided parking passes to on-site parking, further insuring
favorable access and convenience for boating pleasures. Had we known or
even suspected the possibility of new Marina ownership eliminating on-site
parking, we would never have purchased at Pleasant Harbor Marina. It is our
strong belief that Statesmen have an obligation to honor their predecessor's
commitments that were in place at the time we and all other slip -owners
purchased our respective slips.
6) Last, but not least, it is our main concern that Pleasant Harbor Marina
continues to have at least as much parking as currently present and non-
dependent on the success or failure of this or other Statesmen's projects for
reasonable on-site parking privileges.
In closing, we would like to thank you for the opportunity to express our feelings and
thoughts about the proposed changes contemplated by Statesmen.
Best Regards,
Ron W. Green and
