Jtr:iii;t,,. -vl,tttt DEAR COMMISSION MEMBERS, I HAVE HEARD IT SAID THAT BRINNON DOESN'T NEED ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT I HAVE PARTICIPATED IN OUR COMMUNITY GROUPS THAT HAVE DONE DUE DILIGENCE IN PREPARING COMMUNITY PLANNING AS THE COUNry REQUESTED- 1995, !999, 2002, THE DEVELOPMENT OF BLACK POINT WAS CONSIDERED IN EACH OF THOSE AND ACCEPTED AS A VIABLE PROJECT BY THE COMMUNITY GROUPS, THE PLANNING COMMISSIONS AND THE COUNTY DCD. a THIS COMMUNIW AS ALWAYS THRIVED ON NATURAL RESOURCES AND TOURISM, THIS INCLUDES TIMBER tNDUSTRY, RECREATTONAL OPPORTUNTTTES AND SEAFOOD/F|SHING tNCLUDTNG SHELLFTSH FARMING. TOURISM IS ONE OF OUR ONLY VIABLE INDUSTRIES REMAINING, WITH THE HIGHEST VISITOR COUNTS IN EAST JEFFERSON BUT WE CAN'T ACCOMODATE THEM. THE PLEASANT HARBOR RESORT & ITS FACILITIES CAN ONLY HAVE A POSITIVE IMPACT ON THE TOURISM PORTION OF BRINNON AND COUNW ECONOMIES. ].. IT'S A CLEAN INDUSTRY. WITH VERTUALLY NO IMPACT ON THE COMMUNITY EXCEPT CREATING LOCAL LIVING WAGE JOBS. OUR TOURISM NUMBERS BEAR THAT OUT. THE TOURIST LODGING TAX STAYS LOCALLY AS WELL AS A LARGE SALES TAX REVENUE FOR OUR COUNTY. a a a. DOSEWALLIPS STATE PARK IS ONE OF THE TOP VISITED PARKS IN THE STATE PARK SYSTEM. b. PLEASANT HARBOR PROVIDES A PLATFORM FOR INDEPENDENT TOURIST SERVICES. IT ALSO HELPS PROVIDE MUCH OF THESE TAXES THAT JEFFERSON COUNTY WELCOMES AND USES AS A SIGNIFICANT PORTION OF ITS BUDGET. WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES THAT MAKE TO BRINNON - PARTICULARLY IN THE CASE OF PLEASANT HARBOR? THESE TAX DOLLARS WHEN IN DECLINE, BECOME THE PLATFORM FOR YOUR AND OUR PROPERry TAX INCREASES THROUGH - ANNUAL "RE-EVALUATION INCREASES, THUS PROPERTY TAX INCREASES''. THE SAME HOLDS TRUE FOR SALES TAX AND OTHER FEES AND SERVICES THAT ARE ON AUTO-PILOT TO KEEP THE COUNTY BUDGET SOLVENT. OUR SCHOOL POPULATION IS DOWN TO BARE MINIMUM AND THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH FAMILY WAGE JOBS.
