HomeMy WebLinkAbout167iEetrilvr': tllc - r I am writing this letter in support of the development plans for the Pleasant Harbor Marina & Recreational Community. As a resident of iefferson County, this cornmunity will provide my family and I with much needed amenities, opportunities, and a reason for remaining in this area in the future. A review of the numerous studies, reports and public discussions has illustrated that all of the major concerns around transportation, environmental protection, Tribal rights, water conservation, and infrastructure impact have not only been addressed, but the developer has exceeded their responsibitity to benefit the community. Since the 1950's this property has been a marina & a campground. The development of the Marina in the past few years has significantly improved the green footprint, while providing us residents, and the tourists who visit us, with a dramatically better experience, lt has given the Hood Canal and surrounding area a reason to be proud of this place we call home. The cited plans noted by the developer will expand upon this success. lt builds upon the Brinnon Comprehensive Plan from the 1990's, which recognized the ideal nature of the area for short term & long term residences. Judging from the proven track record of Statesman, and their detailed plans for environmental stewardship, we should have complete confidence that this development will actually improve the environmental sustainability of the area. It is impossible to argue that the gifting of a Recreation Center to the State or County could be anything but a benefit to the community. This becomes even more impressive when one considers that it includes land that used to be an RV park, but now offers outdoor recreation amenities which shadow the LEED GOLD status. As a community, Jefferson county can no longer ignore the economic, social, recreational and health needs of the citizens. The plans for the Pleasant Harbor Marina and Recreation Community make a significant impact in each of these areas. Without sustained growth and the accompanying emplovmenu a community is not sustainable. We will lose our school, our residents, 6ur small businesses, and significantly decline over time. It is time for responsible government to recognize the needs of the County in retaining the Millennial Generation with quality and environmentally clean jobs in order to sustain the growth of the school aged children, and therefore, the long-term continuance of our community. Too many of the nay-sayers on this project are either not from this community, or have not taken timeto read the plans & reports. As both a resident, and someone who has taken time to read the inforrnation,l trust that the hereby offer my full support for administration of the County wil Lry 31,r, 7?'d 444t:
