HomeMy WebLinkAboutCommunity Health Educator Jefferson County Job Description Job Title: Community Health Educator Department: Public Health Division: Nursing/Prevention Reports To: Public Health Director FLSA Exempt(Y/N): No Union: Yes BBP: No Salary Level: Grade 32 Location: Public Health Office Approved By: Human Resources Manager ,r "�.-.�i Approved Date: July 2021 ) SUMMARY Provides assessment,health education and public health interventions to county residents in order to prevent disease and unintentional injury, improve the quality of life and reduce disparities in health; directs health education programs for group and community needs by performing the following duties. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Plans and conducts community surveys and collaborates with other health specialists,community organizations,and civic groups to ascertain health needs, develop desirable health goals, and determine availability of professional health services. Develops and maintains partnerships between public,civic, professional,and voluntary agencies. Prepares and disseminates age appropriate educational and informational materials. Local liaison for technical assistance,resources and referrals for community and agencies regarding community health issues such as tobacco prevention and control, unintentional pregnancy, STD and communicable disease prevention. Initiates health promotion discussions in schools,work places, community agencies and public forums. Plans for and provides educational opportunities for the community and provides educational presentations. Designs, develops, and implements age appropriate activities to populations at risk for unintentional pregnancy, STD's, and communicable disease prevention. Team leader of prevention team within JCHHS working in schools; trains and/or coordinates training of agency and community professional staff on community health issues tobacco prevention and control, youth-related services and other programs as assigned Grant writing, CDC/WA DOH liaison, prepares reports and statistics. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. A.)from four-year college or university in education or social sciences or closely related field; or equivalent; and five(5)years related experience in teaching or providing education in a health related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Master's degree(M. A.) in education or social sciences or closely related field preferred. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to top management,public groups,and/or boards of directors. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions,percentages,ratios, and proportions to practical situations. REASONING AB ILITY ING A ILITY Ability to define problems, collect data,establish facts,and draw valid conclusions.Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. CERTIFICATES,LICENSES,REGISTRATIONS Valid Washington State Driver's License OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES Must have knowledge developmental/learning theory. Advanced computer skills including ability to use MS WORD, EXCEL and ACCESS as well as E-Mail and Internet software programs. Knowledge of community mobilization/organizing theories and strategies.
