For example, two rows (lines) of three basins each oriented on the contours is better than "stacking" three rows (lines) of three basins each oriented on the contours (each basin normally has its long side perpendicular to the direction of the slope). When the site characteristics require "stacking" the primary units should be laid out in a checkerboard (alternating) fashion rather than selecting units immediately down gradient.
