someone is hurt on the Community Center grounds.
The Board advised Mrs. Nelson that the Community Center buildings
are listed on the County's insurance coverage, but t ey will check with
the insurance agent to see what the exact type of co erage the County
is provided.

Change Orders: David Johnston reviewed twelve change orders that have
been or will be submitted for approval to the Board. He advised that he
could not give a total cost for these changes because prices haven't
been' established for all of them. The Board recomme ded that he obtain
as many firm price commitments as possible on the cha ge orders.

Commissioner Brown moved to have the Engineer's Office check the bids
for possible errors and if the low bid is proper that the bid be awarded
to Shold Excavation of Hadlock. The motion was seco ded by Commissioner
Pitts.
Assistant Public Works Director, Gary Rowe reported t at all bids were
correct as submitted and Shold Excavation was the lo bidder.
APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES: The minutes of April 2, 1984
were approved as read on the motion of Commissioner B own, seconded by
Commissioner Pitts.
APPROVAL & SIGNING OF THE BILLS: The Ma ch bills payable in
April were reviewed, approved and signed by each memb r of the Board.

Road. Mr. Weidner has an arena which is used by the 4-H Clubs for horse
shows, so there are horses crossing the highway. The requested that a
guard rail or a lower speed limit be placed along this stretch of road.
The Public Works Department has installed an "Equestrian Crossing" sign
but the Board suggested that the Sheriff's office be contacted when a
special event is going to be staged so they could possible help. Anothe
possibility would be to put a sign on the side of the road to warn
motorists of the crossing.
Alcoholism Board Reappointments: Commissioner Pitts seconde
Commissioner Brown's motion to approve thetollowing_eappointments to
the Alcoholism Board: Lee Smith, Jennifer Stankus and Maria Schipper.
Each was reappointed to a three year term to expire i 1987.
Community Services Board Reappointment: Louise Raymond
was reappointed to serve - ,.' a three year term on the Community Services

Chalmer's Third Addition to Preliminary

located East of Chalmer's lst and 2nd Additions to
Irondale and West of Woodlawn Acres, was reviewed.
The proposal is for the development of four divisions
for a total of 30 single family residence lots.
Rachel Nathanson, Assistant Planne , outlined the
improvements and design specifications and explained
that a variance is being requested from the Subdivisi
Ordinance requirement of a fire hy rant being placed
within 300 feet of every lot.
The Port Townsend Utilities Depart ent and Fire Distr.ct
#1 (Chimacum) both had concerns ab ut the placement
of the fire hydrants to ensure adequate fire protecti
the Fire District also recommended I the installation
of a six inch water line along the, Flora Street right
of-way.
The Planning Commission voted unanimously to deny
the variance request, but did reco'mend the approval
of the preliminary plat contingent! on the stated
conditions after deletion of Condition number 13.
(Refer to first draft conditions).!
Commissioner Brown moved to approve the preliminary
plat as recommended by the Plannin Commission withth
changes in the conditions dated Ap il 9, 1984.
Commissioner Pitts seconded the motion. Unanimous.

need for an expanded airport facil.ty and b) the
need to assess the condition of th existing airp rt
facility in relation to its abilit to meet the c rrent
and future needs of the community, 3) Refer to th~
matter of the need for an airport hat can handle
commuter traffic to the County vot rs. David Gol smith
advised that he felt that as with II of the airp rt
sites, since the question of need as not been cl arly
answered for many people, it is difficult to just'fy
a new location.
