1.0 Introduction
A review of the provided generator upgrade project documentation has been performed on AT&T’s
recently installed backup diesel generator located at the 10092414 communications site in
Jefferson County, Washington. The purpose of the review is to provide an engineering opinion on
the installation of the generator support concrete slab and generator anchorage, and to
investigate compliance with the approved Construction Drawings.
2.0 Building Code and Installation Criteria
The approved Construction Drawings have appropriately utilized the following design criteria
based on the site’s location:
IBC 2018 – International Building Code.
ASCE 7-16 – Minimum Design Loads and Associated Criteria for Buildings and Other Structures.
ANSI/TIA-222-H – Structural Standard for Antenna Supporting Structures and Antennas.
AISC – Steel Construction Manual.
ACI 318 – Building Code Requirements for Structural Concrete.
The following documents were provided:
Construction Drawings – Generator Upgrade Project
GeoStructural LLC, Rev-0, 08/06/20.
Construction Photos – Before Concrete Placement
Site Photos – After Concrete Placement and Generator Anchorage
According to the approved Construction Drawings, AT&T’s proposed backup diesel standby
generator project at the above site consists of the following:
Installation of a new 4’-0” x 10’-0” x 0’-8” thick reinforced concrete pad.
o Preparation of subgrade/base as specified in Construction Drawings (e.g.
undisturbed natural subgrade or compacted granular fill material).
o #5 horizontal reinforcing bars at a spacing of 12” o.c. each way.
o Concrete “block-out” for supply conduit stub-up as per manufacturer.
Installation of, at a minimum, four (4) Hilti Kwik Bolt TZ SS expansion anchors from
generator diesel fuel tank frame to concrete.
o 5/8” Ø w/ 60 ft-lb installation torque.

3.0 Conclusion
Based upon review of the provided documents, it appears the installation of the outdoor generator
with belly-mounted diesel fuel tank, generator reinforced concrete pad and post-installed
anchorage is in general conformance with the approved Construction Drawings.
All data required to complete our post installation review has been furnished by our client.
GeoStructural has not conducted a site visit or independent study to verify existing conditions and
the results of this letter are based solely on the information provided.
This review only encompasses the outdoor generator and the apparent installation of its
anchorage and supporting concrete slab. The anchor bolt installation torque, concrete
mixture/strength, pad structural capacity, soil bearing capacity and subgrade preparation
methods, electrical and grounding system design/installation, etc. are beyond the scope of this
review. If any of the existing or proposed conditions reported in this review are not properly
represented, please contact our office immediately to request an amended report.
